Hi Kino.

Well.....ummm.....nahhh. I don't think so, but I am not 'all knowing' of course. There have been some you-tube vids relating to the nature of this billboard [you linked to] for a long time now. So far, nothing has happened to the degree of the message of that billboard in my living memory. Oz is not immune from tsunamis, but I am not 'feeling' this one. wink

Cheers, Duck.

Hi folks.

As you have probably seen the Pacific region west is and has been very active. This may continue. Many M4+'s have been popping up all over the place and I reckon our continent is subtly feeling these movements too.

Last night, after Richmond [my team] lost to Collingwood [not my team] and probably the ground around Melbourne was rocking with the maggie supporters jumping up and down with joy....I was sitting outside, ready to take some more images of the moon. Everything was dead still. As I was fiddling with my camera settings [sitting very still], the water bottle on the table near me began to quiver [water] and then rock slightly. My head/ears was/were ringing like a bell and I heard a very low grade, slight ground rumble. The most eye-catching thing was the water bottle rocking and the water in a glass beside it quivering and slightly rocking too. Went to press the record button on my camera and turned it off instead accidentally. Dang - it would have been some good footage.

I checked Geoscience's website and nothing has been recorded yet. Very curious. I reckon our ground in the southern areas here was definitely moving very slightly from north to south, or south to north - without the 'typical' features of a tremor or quake.

For now - gotta move a huntsman from my son's bed eek will not be eliminated - just moved wink

Hi Kino and BIGT and all.

Yes, I saw those quakes come up and it is very concerted energy. Unfortunately the M7.5 created some serious issues, prior to the following M7.7 - which I can only imagine has added to the problems there. I believe at least one person has been killed and buildings have been damaged. The tsunami warning has been cancelled, but I reckon they still need to be aware pf some water 'behaviours'.

The activity around the western Pacific and with the Australian Plate had me feeling that we hadn't seen the end of the larger quakes. I knew the western Pacific somewhere was going to feel a larger movement at some point.

Some of this [mind's eye] energy is coming up in the eastern side of the Pacific too.

The Oz plate has been too jittery to also not see potentially some continuing activity on its periphery and then referring some of that north and south energy into the Oz land and some locations along a couple of shelfs lining the coasts. WA is this sort of example [SW].

For now, Duck.

I meant to say the larger sizes of the Indonesian quakes were M6.5 ans M7.7 [M7.5 correction]

Yes Kino, I saw that too in my feed.
Don't know if it has been verified yet, but some commentors on "Severe Weather" [on FB] have said it has occurred. I can't find any other reports on the net yet.....

Duck.

Just found this link; tsunami...

Beggars belief that a tsunami can be happening without being warned in this day and age. Ridiculous.

Yep BIGT...I found that incredible too. Maybe there aren't enough [or any] buoys or equipment located in that part of Indonesia to have recorded the water changes. One of the buoys just above Australia registered the movement and that was in a position where there was land between it and the tsunami/quakes.

Sad situation for the folks there.

Duck.

yes Kino, very sad.

I saw somewhere today [FB geological science website] that it may have been a sea shelf collapse as a result of the quake which may have caused the tsunami. So the epicentre of the quake may not have specifically initiated the tsunami, but it may have caused the sea shelf to collapse [yet to be proven for now - but I would believe this].

It appears that there were 2 tsunamis, looking at the videos. The first one was 1.5m allegedly, the second over 2m! The raw power in that video of the second wave was just impressive...reminded me of the Boxing Day tsunamis.

Yep Kino. That can be the nature of tsunamis. Multiple waves. The power driving them is tremendous with the potential of the hind waves being higher than the primary wave/s.
Shocking to see such a thing and how the poor locals were taken by surprise [i.e. no apparent warning - unless I ma wrong].
