The forecast for Saturday is Snow Showers down to 800m, which means there will be snow on the mountain. As a result, Parks Victoria will probably want to charge people for getting up the mountain. I believe this is only in the order of $8 to $10. The summit will most likely be closed to Vehicles, so car parking will be at the Car Park near the Gate, then walk 300m to the Summit where our BBQ will take place.

Yep up through Warburton.A few years back during an early season snow chase I went up the back way from Healesville. Mate that was a scary road in the snow. That road should be closed this time of the year but I could be wrong.

There's a couple nice waterfalls just off to the side of the road that starts to go up DBuang. In particular one that sits on a tight bend... it's worth stopping 50m just before you get to it and go and have a look. If you guys get up there early enough you might see a few Lyre Birds. My all time record was 30 pairs.... which i have never even come close to.

Can't wait to see your piccies!

Don't do what Greg did and stop on the snow covered road on the way down the mountain with a car behind you poke

I will be bringing my camper cooker because that will be more reliable than the gas BBQ's on the summit, plus we can cook inside. I am also going to try and bring up some hot water, tea and coffee so people can have a hot drink but I will also bring some cans too.

We will have chips and dip also. Hopefully there will be some snow on the ground, not too much that we can't go up the mountain though. We have timed this well with the approaching cold front, however we will have to make sure we don't stay up there too long if the snow really starts to come down.

Those without a 4WD should park at the car park below the Summit if the road is not closed, and take the 300m walk.

We look forward to seeing you there! smile

I'm still up in the air as to whether I can attend, or not. A very ill family member means I really can't be 1 1/2 hours drive away. I'll re-assess the situation on Saturday morning and make my decision then. frown

Yeah, Loo, that road to Healesville is usually closed in Winter. I've taken it once, not in Winter, and that was bad enough!

Greg, first time I have ever seen Lyre birds in the wild was on the road to Donna. I think I counted 16 on the one trip!
