Just had a little snowfall here about 15 minutes ago. Stopped now and nothing has settled. Temp is 1.6C with a wind chilld of -3.2. Wind is 19kph from 292 degrees. Humidity 95%.
For all you snow lovers, and especially those who love to run about in shorts and thongs in the snow, here is the link to a weather station in Guyra: http://weather.creativenexus.net/
This should help you with what is actually happening at the top of the range rather than relying on the WS at Armidale Airport, which is 229m lower than here and is usually a couple of degrees warmer.
Hi snow gypsy. This site hasn't updated since yesterday. Is this an automatic station you have setup. How often is it supposed to refreshg ? and is your temp gauge a metre off the ground and in total shade ?

This weather station is on a large shed just south of the township. It does go offline sometimes because some of the blokes who use the shed switch off the computer. (My theory is that the WS just takes fright at big and interesting weather systems!) It should update every 15 minutes I think.
Will make a desision to go to either gyra or mt makenzie. Just wondering how much does it cost in petrol from lismore to gyra and wil I just slide off the road with my tires that arnt made for those conditions would I need snow chains wil make a call by friday tho would love to get pics of my car with snow on it

No need for chains....it doesn't get that deep up there. From Lismore to Guyra usually costs me about $60, but I use premium and I have a 2.0L Turbo so naturally it costs more for me than a normal 4cyl.
Though you have to get there before it snows. The countless times i have seen them closed the highway is quite a lot during the heavier nighttime falls. If there was a mass outbreak like in 1984 then i would take them a an insurance
Hello everyone I'm a newbie here. Just a general question though, what are the chances of snow or any sort of icy precipitation for the NT this weekend?

Well we all know that the 1984 event was an extraordinary occurrence and the likelihood of that happening this weekend is non existent. If an event like that was on the cards ( now or in the future) this thread would be more lively than it is now. Although I do agree RE the roads....the police are very quick to close it especially if it starts to accumulate and the flurries are quite dense. Driving at night in a snow shower on unfamiliar roads is a challenge to say the least!
From the quick look I've had at the charts, I'm not that excited by the weekends prospects. Although 850mb temps are quite nice throughout Sunday into Monday, moisture looks like it may be the defining factor once again with 700mb RH extremely marginal. Couple that with a few of forecast soundings showing a very low moisture profile and dodgy lapse rates ( no sharp cooling with height) I'd expect any snow showers/flurries to be of an orographic nature, not from convective clouds. Hopefully we'll see a nice event before the end of the season when all the factors align and deliver the white magic!
