Heavens open up over inland NSW Martin Palmer, Tuesday July 13, 2010 - 10:29 EST Wet times are returning to inland New South Wales today, with the potential for some places seeing their monthly mean in just 24 hours.
An active front has arrived in the southeast and is now tapping on huge volumes of moisture drifting through the interior. The moisture originated over the anomalously warm Indian Ocean. It has tracked across the heart of Australia, delivering some exceptional rain to places like Uluru.
The front is pulling that moisture into NSW and although weakening, is likely to deliver some of the best rain in months. Computer models suggest anywhere from the Central West up through to the Upper Western could see 24 hour totals reach 40mm. This total exceeds the mean in many places for the whole of July, normally one of our drier months.
Keep an eye on weatherzone.com.au and Stormtracker for the latest on the soggy situation.

A maximum of 17.3c here today after a minimum of 9.6c,16.2c ATM. Gloomy most of the day & less than a millimeter out of the drizzle. The garden is getting a bit slushy again & the soil is soaked to the clay,so I dont realy need any more rain ATM. Wind from the NE has just started pick up in the past half hour, only showing 17km/hr on the weather station.

A very unusual night coming up, stepping through the model 850 temps the peak heat will be around 10pm tonight for the ST's and CT's, while for Sydney the hottest part of tomorrow will be at 4am. Just after 10pm as the airmass begins to change is when the real gale force winds and torrential rain will hit up here.

The heavy stuff's finally arrived here. We had heavy fog then heavy cloud today, and suddenly mid morning it was raining lightly. Did this all day, then this evening it really misted up and when I got home, inside my house was colder than outside! It was an icy feeling 10.3c inside, and 11.6c outside but it felt warmer. N wind. I considered opening some windows to warm the house up!
Fished some wood off the woodpile and just in time, as the heavy rain (and increasing N/NW wind) arrived. It's beating on the windows now (and trickling down my chimney, sigh, buckets are deployed). Looks like being a very wet, windy, noisy night.

Here its still 10.3 now and the wind is getting stronger, EC is showing the strongest winds over the CT's tonight yet BOM have not given a strong wind warning for the CT's, very odd. House is starting to shake now, just hoping I can avoid a blackout.

It's been steady for a few hours now, but not torrential. Wind has been a bit gusty but nothing outrageous. And it's STILL 11.4c outside.
it goes from W/NW to N, although I think it's more NW now than before (when it was North).
