LOL TH thats the run, cruddy end to a promising start. Barely 2mm here so yer 5mm a stretch. Its not quite finished so 5mm is a possibility I suppose over the whole few days. In the middle of my forecast range anyway LOL. That bloody windy (and warm) its all evaporated now. May as well have never rained. The bluegums are pretty amazing. Must be dry to have total dieback like that in what should not be such a marginal zone. I don't really like the blugums. As plantation they may be good in growth speed, as a "paddock" tree they look magnificent when healthy but are too prone to longicorn infestations for my liking. Dry conditions excaccerbate this. Have had 4 adult 20+ year old huge bluegums die almost overnight from longicorn attack in the last 3 years or so. 2 this last few weeks alone!! Nothing can be done apparently. Got plenty of firewood I suppose.

Damn sad news about the trees, Tim & TH. Agree about the current "system" too. The only saving grace is the cloud cover which has kept things a bit cooler. Speaking of how dry and parched it is, our bore (which we share with our neighbour) is not far from running dry. The pipe is down 80' and a foot from the bottom and now sucks as much air as it does water. The next windmill in the same stream is sucking up mud. This is a stream that has been one of the most reliable on this side of the highway and in past droughts has continued on strong against the odds of being in the same basin as Collinsville and East Bungaree who haul water out of the ground like its a never ending supply. Well, no more. We're about to lay pipe to the next mill 1km up the road from this mill which still has ample water and comes from a completely different area thankfully. Still, we shouldn't have to. The name Booborowie means "good water hole" and was what attracted people to the area originally. The water hole has long since dried up with overuse of underground water in travelling irrigators thanks in part to the above mentioned enterprises. Between them and the increasing lack of decent falls, this area may not stay the drought-proof valley that it once was. [end rant]

maybe i better do some looking into that beetle PM, the die back regime doesn't seen to fit a biological attack though, one third is dead other than the odd tree here and there and the other two thirds of the block is still ok with little or no sign of dieback.
1mm here, the TH factor for the system on the models was always high though (TH = Total Hogwash)

isolated thunderstorms = sporadic lightning off the coast associated with active coldies moving at bullet train speed, i didn't bother with that one. i'm more interested in a diurnally driven convective analysis. i like a good coldie chase but it ain't for the thunder and lightning. hp precipitation and hail core punching is the order of the day for those and i seriously want to get pics\vid. of a cold air twist up after the last one i missed.

I'm so confused about that picture! It kinda looks like the clouds are going under the sea ice, it's doing my head in trying to work out what is what! :p Also, I was just thinking, convective outlooks are due to finish soon aren't they? End of March or something? That means it must be getting closer to winter and the prospect of more rain One other thing that I might as well just ask while it is quiet in here, is about recording rainfall. When I record my rain, I record it under the day that the rain occurred, ie. the day before. However, it seems that quite a few people record it under the day that the rain guage was emptied. So for example, my way would have us with 11.0mm on March 3 (the day the rain occurred) but some people would record it under March 4 (the day the rain was recorded). Which one is correct because I think I might be doing it wrong?

yes you are correct in that presumption.... :p The rain is recorded under the day it was taken out... ie. the 16mm I took out to 9am this monring is recorded as fallen on the 4th...
