Play was abandoned at Edgbaston today making it 4 washout days out of 6 there this summer. That's just for international cricket, there were more washouts for domestic matches as well.
Looking very unsettled over the next few days with weather warnings issued for heavy rain.
The highest UK temperature in 2012 is 29.3ºC at Acnagart in the Scottish Highlands on May 25th. If that is not beaten, it will be the first yearly maximum below 30ºC since 1993. It will also be the first time since 1965 that the yearly UK maximum will have been recorded in May and the first time since 1978 that the warmest UK yearly max was recorded in Scotland.

The UK looks like it's the place to be to escape from AGW! Heavier convective rain events will probably become more likely as Europe heats up in summer. Of course all the rain and cloud will keep temps down as well.
The next two matches of the mickey-mouse ODI series will be played at Durham and Manchester, places known for their gloomy weather so it could be three washouts on the Trott.

Maybe you should take a holiday to Austria: if the Google forecast is accurate, Vienna is looking at 35, 32 and 33 the next three days, after a 36C high today. Currently 20 deg at 1:30 in the morning.
In the spirit of Brits getting a little silly on their summer holidays, do you remember this little tune UK Steve?

I was only 5 back when that song came out, but I have heard it a few times in the past. It actually topped the charts for a week back in May 1986.
We avoided any torrential downpours today, but we have had several hours of persistant rain which began at 4am and is still falling at 5pm. Another washout at Edgbaston with the Warwickshire game abandoned.
Those temps in Austria sound lovely, sadly we don't have a hope of seeing temps that warm here.
The last 30ºC here was way back on July 26th 2006. Since then, the only two days that have come close were July 1st 2009 (Max 29.4ºC) and October 1st 2011 (Max 29.1ºC)

Another disappointing week, rain on every day. Cool and mainly cloudy for the most part as well. Friday was awful with persistant non stop rain all day. We escaped any serious rain, but some other parts of the UK were not so lucky.
Outlook for the upcoming week is more of the same. Cool and wet with limited sunshine.
Hey UK Steve. Heading to Scotland tomorrow for a couple of weeks. Any hope of ANY sunshine?? What exactly is the Spanish Plume effect that everyone keeps telling me about?

Greetings Steve:
On my thread you asked if the temperatures were rounded up to the nearest number for Records in the US.
The answer is yes. I dislike it as I guess I'm a "purist" and don't believe in rounding numbers up. I suspected that our local Radio Station--KENA, the official weather station for Mena--did this. My suspicions were confirmed the other day, when the Maximum they recorded was actually 100.7F (as the reporter doesn't usually give the Maximum to the tenth of a degree)--which was rounded up to 101F (if unrounded, the 100.7F Maximum would have Tied the Daily Record High Maximum [which was 100F on that DATE, in 1953], since the temperature was rounded up, it "broke" the previous High Maximum temperature for that DATE), again, I REALLY dislike rounded-up numbers for temperatures.
Here's hoping your area becomes MUCH less cloudier and permits some proper Summertime warmth. I'm copping some Glorious & Much Needed rainfall today (Monday, now 8:31PM), this is the 3rd shower (no thunder yet) that we've been hit with today and I've copped over 1"/26mm+ rain today as more falls. The maximum here this afternoon was a much cooler 84F and the temperature now is in the lower 70sF. Hopefully this rain (& we're forecasted for Scattered/Isolated showers for much of the week) and any more we get, will perk-up the area lawns and cause the Countywide Burn Ban to be lifted.
I again want to say that I Thoroughly enjoy your weather posts--they are Very Informative & Interesting.
Congrats to Murray for putting up a good fight against Federer in the Mens' Final at Wimbledon. Better luck next year. I suppose that London is becoming "tight as a drum" as the opening of the Olympic Games nears. I can only imagine how tight the security measures will be. Good Luck to the UK in the Medals Count.
Kind Wishes & Take Care~~~Wet Snow P.S. What's the hottest temperatures that would still feel tolerable to you (as you remarked that 100F+ would be too warm for you)?
@ CS, The Spanish Plume effect occurs when a gap between high pressure over northern Europe and low pressure over the Atlantic sucks hot air north from Spain and Africa across Britain.

They are certainly taking no chances with security. I'm sure the US will do well in the medals table and hopefully the UK will at least match our medals total from the last olympics.
When I was in Turkey last September, maximums were in the high 80's and low 90's. That was close to the upper limit of temperatures that I could tolerate. Anything in the high 90's in above would be tolerable for a short period, but not if I lived in a place which gets long stretches of such high temperatures. The highest temperature I've experienced in my lifetime was 100ºF in Marmaris, Turkey on September 6th 2006.

The met office outlook for the next couple of weeks isn't great unfortunately.

UK Outlook for Sunday 15 Jul 2012 to Tuesday 24 Jul 2012:
The generally unsettled picture is expected to continue across the UK, though Sunday looks to be a drier day for many, but still a few sharp showers possible, especially in the east. Cloud and outbreaks of rain spreading to most parts on Monday, though the far southeast may stay largely dry. Cool for mid July, especially in the north and west. The rest of period will see showers or longer spells of rain, especially in the north and west, where it will also be breezy. Sunny spells at times between the showers, mainly in the south and east. Temperatures near normal or a little below, but rather cool in the unsettled and breezy north and west.

'Breezy' - not a word used by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology, but a good fit to many days we get on the coast in summer.
I find 100 degrees pretty tolerable because when it gets that hot it's normally quite dry. 85 degrees with high humidity is less comfortable, although if it's 'breezy' that helps. Neither is good for those who have work outdoors but it's OK if you're on holidays.
It was 113 deg F at Sydney Airport on New Years Day 2006, the highest temperature recorded at that site.

Another poor day today, cool wet and gloomy. More of the same for the rest of the week. 47.0mm so far this month with more to come which could mean the second consecutive month over 100mm.
July 2012 will be the sixth consecutive summer month below the 1971-2000 average.

The UV in one of the forecasts was 4 and the guy said take precautions! In many parts of Australia the UV index remains above 4 even in the dead of winter. Here the UV reaches 4 towards late august and by December it is sitting around 12, 13!

Another disappointingly cool and unsettled week. Thursday was actually the equal sunniest day of the summer which just goes to show how dull it's been. We still haven't had three dry days in a row this summer.
We have now exceeded the rainfall total for the whole of 2011 just over half way into the year.
Outlook for the upcoming week, more of the same unfortunately although there are signs of improvement towards the end of the month.
Here in Caroline Springs (North West suburb in Melbourne) Our sunniest day this July(dullest month) was on the 7th when we had 8.5hours of sun! Which is higher than your highest for the summer!!
