The BOM not keen on mentioning storms for Adelaide today BUT I feel they have this wrong & will come into line with SD later this morning, reasons you ask??...

Instability covers a broad area mainly across the East of the state but a tongue stretches down over the central areas from around midday enhancing the chances for the GAA..

Trough wanders across around 4-6pm today & that in itself combined with the unstable air should be enough to produce a few storms locally, especially given what has happened over the last couple of days...

lost my internet connection last nite, round two was more of a lightning show and a bit o rain.
Round 3 was more rain and more hail. the hail didnt last long though but it did belt down .
Had lightning quite close and had car parked under a huge gum. choices......which is it ????
move car into open and get smashed by possible large hail or leave it and have lightning possibly hit tree.
All good. thick fog this morning.
Did manage to get some good video ...I hope. But its in a file that I cant seem to download into PC. DOH !!!!!!
I did pity the campers in tents here last night, im sure it came as unexpected.

I see Yunta scored 16mm, Pt Augusta 11mm, Hawker not showing yet! Surprisingly Woomera had stuff all, must have been all around, and nothing much overhead! Years ago you used to get rainfall readings for Wilpena, obviously been discontinued! Oh had about 3.5mm here! Hawker managed 18mm, very nice!

What is that strange curved shower about to exit the mouth of Spencer's Gulf - it's moving almost due south ??

Well, that was a convenient time to close the forum.

Great hail storms and rain throughout the Barossa.

Crazy stuff. Very intense storms.

Managed to see some flashes from the smaller cell to the west over the ocean. Still some nice cloud formations around, but unfortunately nothing forming out to the NW like I was hoping.

Got a call from my brother up near gawler where he had to pull over to the side of the road. Lots of lightning, hail, very heavy rain. Formed very rapidly. Should be some good photos posted here soon I bet smile

Oh geeze just checked the news -

Quote:
A BOY has been hit by lightning in Adelaide's eastern suburbs as a wild storm lashes the Barossa Valley and Adelaide Hills, dumping large amounts of rain and hail.

The boy was hit by the lightning at Kensington Sports Oval, on The Parade, and has been taken to hospital by ambulance.

Bob Charles, who live opposite the over, said he heard a ``loud crack of lightening'' before an ambulance arrived.

``The roof of my garage shook but I didn't take much notice of it,'' he said.

Another neighbour said she later saw a group of boys who had been playing football on the oval gather around an ambulance.

The incident came as significant rain fell across Adelaide's northern suburbs, the Barossa Valley and throughout the Adelaide Hills.

Hail also fell, blanketing many roads.

The rainfall amounts include 24mm in 30 minutes at Rowland Flat and 31 mm in 1 hour at Mt Adam.

Lou Miranda Estate at Rowland Flat was hit with a huge burst of rain and hail for about 20 minutes.

Worker Lisa Miranda said the building had been flooded but the weather had since dried up completely.

"You wouldn't even think it had been raining," she said.

"We had hail pelting probably about the size of 10c pieces.

"Basically it just flooded into our office and into the restaurant.

"We had to send people away because they were starving - it hit right during service."

Lyndoch has had 22mm of rain and Mt Adam in 20mm.

Residents have reported hail the size of 10c pieces.

Deb, from the Lyndoch Hotel, said the hail had turned the hills white and created a winter wonderland.

"It (the weather) came in really quickly and dark and it rained for about 20 minutes," she said.

Josh, from the Bedford Hotel, said there was a "fair bit of hail" and plenty of lightning and thunder.

"There was a pile of rain and water over the top of gutter on the hotel," he said.

"It took me by surprise, I wasn't expecting it."

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for residents in the Playford, Gawler, Barossa, Adelaide Hills and parts of the metropolitan and Mount Barker council areas.

``These thunderstorms are moving towards the south-east. They are forecast to affect Palmer, Hahndorf and the area east of Mount Pleasant by 3:00 pm and Mount Barker by 3:30 pm,'' the warning said.

The bureau said damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding are likely.

Another thunderstorm in Gulf St Vincent is forecast to affect Noarlunga, Hallett Cove and Christies Beach by 3:30 pm.

No surprises with the storms today, upper trough pushed through which cooled mids rapidly whilst boundary layer was moist and receiving good heating for this time of year. Intense cores and multiple cells caused SERIOUS amounts of hail over the Barossa. Hills are totally white there, incredible.

Was painful being stuck in Brighton where all we got was muffled distant rumbles and a few drops.

Classic hybrids. Neither summer storms nor winter ones.

TS cool
