I was under the Athelstone cell as it started firing up - some very close lightning strikes, impressive thunder and a brief shower (of about 20 seconds) with some very, very fine hail. Was over too soon.

Hopefully something fires up this evening when i'm home.

Too big to post up, so I'll have to link to it, this photo of the hail in the Barossa Valley is from Barossa Helicopters.

I could have done with Ted today, as got caught in a doozy of a storm on the freeway by Mount Barker. Heavy rain, hail, lightning and thunder. Mt.Barker obviously had a deluge with heaps of water on the roadside etc and hail still by the roof gutters of some homes. One set of traffic lights not working so I needed Ted again. Venturing on to Strath conditions no better, but by Currency Creek dry in comparasin.
Occasional thunder now, with a short loss of power with one clap.
SMS's from ewn very helpful in this situation.

Unfortunately I was stuck at home babysitting my daughter & looking after my sick wife, but managed to take some shots...

Some very clustered structure over the hills...

The Noarlunga cell approaching but sliding painfully past my house...

The Barrosa cell forming...

Cloud going from NW-SE, and NE-SW at lower level around 5 pm to the north (re: rotation around birdwood?). So much scud, dark bases, etc. Can also confirm at least 5-cent sized hail (and possibly larger). Two severe storms through the area, one before 3 pm, one after. Really close lightning. Hail in a deluge (been a long to see that sort of stuff). Very heavy rain, drop in temp, etc, white-out conditions.

Were probably on this edge of it all, so probably even more dramatic out 10-15 km to the northeast.

Was in two Cinemas today, completely missed out during the intense times of the event ( 1130-130, development of the storms and 2.00-4.30 when those beasts ripped through the north and the east ) Oh well.. atleast hoping for something tonight or tomorrow.

Thankyou, was sitting right infront of it, first time ive seen rotation. Not wrong about the scud too! Had a few close calls with the lightning, it was soo unpredictable out Mannum way! Saw some pretty good lightning though, unfortunately it was raining the whole time. I'll put some average pics up in a sec.

No real action here today apart from some rain this evening... visually though, it was a lovely day. Here's one that took my fancy which was about 50km to my north (around Jamestown).

Nice shots Angre7, we had some fun at footy training tonight with a couple storms pass over though not much rain in them maybe 5mm but still made for a very muddy oval good fun.

A 17yo was struck by lightning in the Eastern suburbs during footy training this afternoon.

He was resuscitated on site and is now breathing on his own in hospital. Trust he recovers fully.

The old warning stands good.

Here's a dodgy pic from the back of the car. This was the very first cell that formed and thundered and dropped hail over the Barossa. Thinking back we actually drove right underneath it in its developing stages, kinda glad it didnt dump earlier, hail on a brand new car is never good. Couldn't believe the updraughts that were occuring through this area, the genuine summer like boiling updraughts, given it's winter. There's certainly been some very off season weather this winter.

Oh and great pics SD, Helen. Thats a ripper anvil there cosmic captured well and ANGRE nice hail fog there, something I have yet to experience, would have been mighty slippery on those roads.

Nice fall Roves, good to see you finally getting some real rain
