When the cold ended in 1995 it was after 6 weeks of strong cold fronts in a continuous westerly airstream, over 2m of snowfalls had accumulated in that time. The cold this year does not resemble 1995 in any shape or form, so a similar change to warm weather would be quite unlikely I think. I still think that spring warmth will be in September this year.

You might be right PD, for spring heat to occur there needs to be forcing fronts in the first place. Still, even a small front can drag heat down if the continent is warm enough. There are no big NW cloud bands this year despite a neutral IOD. No real heat as yet on the models, but this is the time of year when summer loathers like myself develop heat hypochondria.

good to see that a chance of a thunder storm has snuck into the Hunter forcast. Going to be another nice day 20c, and a bit of thunder would top it off nicely. Early next week is looking pretty nasty with the forcast explorer going for a max of 14c on tuesday. With showers comming through it could be one of them days that struggles to push past 10c, Brrrrrrr.

Gee there's a good cell that's been streaming past Bathurst for a few hours now - currently Juuust to our north and skimming us. We have had 3 - 4mm since about 5 am. The sky has quite a summer stormy look to it here.

Had some quite decent showers through the early hours, there was 6mm in the rain tube this morning, and some very tumultuous-looking clouds around the western quadrant, like DaveM says, summer-stormy-looking. The sun was out most of the earlier morning, but now it's all boiling grey clouds again.

TS' in the forecast off the coast too - lets hope we get some offshore lightning!

There's a giant monster just skimming through the ACT SW-S-SE at present. Looks like a t-storm to me, but on radar you can see one desultory bit of lightning to the west of it fading quickly. It's thick, dark grey, with dense rain but it doesn't look like it'll get central Canberra. Dramatic looking though. all kinds of amazing boiling clouds along teh west and south quadrants.

Certainly looks like it's livening up a little on the Tablelands.
We need our Bathurst correspondants to call in with some updates.

Yes there are some good BLACK clouds coming our way with dark rainbands underneath. We may just get skimmed but it's a sky that looks way more summer than winter. Anyone under the correct cloud will have some solid little falls.

There is another solid black area to the right of what can be seen in that aero club cam too. I suspect we'll miss the best of it but it looks good.

Just had lightning/thunder about 5km west - starting to rain now. Mt Panorama almost invisible atm. Heavy winds - now heavy shower.

Just stepped outside - that storm smell hit me - ooh yes I like that.

Presently having a storm pass over Nowra, nothing too spectacular but some pea sized hail.

Brief hail in Bx as well - several lightning strikes around town, good little storm while it was about.

Prob not enough rain to call tennis off though.

The sky looks cloudy still but more scattered - can't see any sign of much in the forseeable future.
