i would safely say without a doubt winter's stranglehold on South Australia is slowly coming to an end as were starting to see really weak troughs come through the state but barely have any penantration or rain in them

I guess we will have to start to get used to Easterly dips poke
What am i saying, i miss them so much! My favourite type of Storm system. Yes, winter seems to be fading away now, maybe the occasional strong front until September but after that we will start to see summer!

I think this morning's BOM forecast was for isolated showers about the hills & southern suburbs slowly spreading to other areas (or something similar). Well, I must have been in an isolated spot at around 530pm because when I came back from shopping at Modbury Triangle, my car was wet... smile

I think there was a a few tinkles of hail in that.... I did expect a flash bang then, but noooo,,,,,so i've ended up with a reading of 1/2 mm but i'm thinking it's about .8 with a bit of a guess after 5 minutes of surprising rain, heavy at times.

Those cells a few hours back were really just pumping it for about 2 frames then would just fade away, wouldn't be surprised about the hail WG.

The fog this morning is the most impressive I have seen in our vicinity in the 8 years we have been here. Still hanging around quite thick at times. Will be interesting to see how long before it starts to break up.

Front coming up now from the SW, rainfall predictions:
Southern suburbs: 2-4mm
Northern Suburbs:0-1mm
Mt Lofty ranges: 2-3mm
Mallee: 0-2mm

This front seemed to be quite lightning active before, its all died down now though.

*Sw KI has picked up 9mm.

Here's my perspective. In my experience, for our southern ag districts true winter weather whether wet or dry continues at least till the end of August although there may be a few springy days in late August. Then we have a mixture of typical winter days and springy days in September and October (hence "winspring"), and in November the weather is what I call late spring - some springy days, some summery days, and probably some cold wet days.
We currently happen to be in a pattern where the deep southern ocean lows and fronts are further south than we would like but that doesn't mean winter is fading away. It's one of the kinds of weather that together make up our winter weather. In a couple of weeks time there could be gales, coldies and hail smile
Happy Birthday Markus

Agreed US the southern annular mode has been in a very warm state in the last fortnight http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/precip/CWlink/daily_ao_index/aao/aao_index.html and so the westerly wind belt containing the fronts is much further south but that could turn around at any time and bring winter back for everyone.

Very good cell development near KI, shame they aren't lightning active.
