Decidedly cool up here still struggling to make 8 which would be slightly below normal. Anyone wishing to start complaining about cold westerly winds then starting today onwards would be a good time.
These are the sort of days I love, that brisk cool westerly with sun/patchy cloud and frequent cold fronts either hitting or clipping the region.
DaveM, my low was only +2.0, but I still had a solid frost all night from after sunset. Its the right conditions for cold nights in the valleys below.

Just a reminder that our short winter is nearly coming to an end. Thanks champ. I think we all know that winter ends on 31st August. Homer I don't think the weather will change from "cold" to "no longer cold" on precisely that date this year (or any year for that matter), Homer.

What is "summer" anyway? Sunshine? Cloudless skies? or high temperatures?
It is really the Hot Season from about December to March, but we get sunshine, cloud or rain at random times all year round, here.

19.7 here today and almost 21 in the city and 19.3 where I was at Ulladulla, higher than I was expecting. Certainly spring on the coast today. 850 temps were only 4 deg, they rise to 5 tomorrow so I can only assume that will mean 21 here and 22 in the city. We're heading into the warmer part of the year when we can add 17 or even 18 to the 850 temp down here.
I took some pictures of the Ulladulla AWS, which has to be one of the easiest grabs around. I'll put them up in the AWS thread tomorrow.

Its funny how that works in reverse depending on the wind direction. For me those southerlies felt like end of winter/spring, but today the westerly felt like the start of winter up here. But for me also a change in mood for the better with anticipation of the start of winter, but for some in Sydney the exact opposite. Just goes to show how much the westerly heats up the Sydney basin that even a winter wind up here can feel like a spring one down there.

Ron, good to hear you are getting the winter feel up there to, these cold changes to the South have the effect of enhancing your frosts, pushing up a ridge of dry air towards you. But you may well see some snow next Friday night too.

Whats going on at Armidale Airport? Glen Airport -7.7, Salisbury Plains -7.4, we got down to -9.2 and Armidale A/port 1.1? Interesting. For one reason or another the inversion didn't set in at Armidale Ap with a light NW wind prevailing all night. The Armidale town site got down to -6°. It was a similar affair down here in Goulburn - not unusual. It was -4° at the airport and +4° here, 5km away and 30m higher. It was +3° at the BoM's town site. When I got up this morning I was able to see heavy frost on the flat down the hill and it was 5° with a 5kt westerly here.

This wind is atrocious. It was breezy on Saturday, but today was very nasty, very gusty blustery winds. Surprised to see it was 15c in Canberra, I dont' think it ever got to that up here, and with that foul wind, it felt colder. It's still going, westerly, gusting in the 40s, with the odd fast little shower and then stars again.

Whats going on at Armidale Airport? Glen Airport -7.7, Salisbury Plains -7.4, we got down to -9.2 and Armidale A/port 1.1? The Armidale airport reading is an anomaly for sure. More importantly - why is there no weather station in Walcha?

Yes good frost here -1 the same yesterday morning as well, warm clear & sunny now, light NW wind.for the last few winters we havnt had to many frosts in this area, but it is making up for them now.may be because there is a E-Nino on the way and when there is La-Ninas the frosts are not as bad because of cloud cover. The first full on bout of frosts last week. I work in Singleton, where it has been down to -2C during the week - but didn't see it due to working Night Shifts. It was 1.5C going through Branxton at midnight though, on the car gauge.
