Yes, my Nylex is the round 250mm one with black plastic funnel. The Davis gauge is a large black plastic funnel. It would be harder to record the 0.2mm in that triangular one.
I think the BOM's steel gauges are probably worse at capturing dew than the plastic which is a good insulator too. The steel tends to absorb sky radiation more and might tend to be slightly drier.

Copied across from another thread:
The total rainfall for the 12 months to the end of July here is already over a metre : one of only 28 metre-plus 12-month totals on record.
Most of the metre-plus totals were either in 1890, or in the years following World War II.

I have been comparing rain totals for my location, Obs Hill and Penrith over the last two weeks. Penrith seems to suffer from the frost/dew/fog run off problem as well, quite a few 0.2 mm totals in there. I reckon 0.4 or 0.5 mm would be a good compromise as there are still a few mizzly climates in Australia such as around Cape Otway that would get a fair few days of very light drizzle under 1 mm. Not a problem here in the coastal subtropics where large fog/dew events are rare and rain is almost always moderate-heavy.

Perth's rainfall this month is a worry. 28mm and average is 170mm.

Yeppoons average is 28mm and we have had 125mm .

It's all topsy turvy...

Yes I feel for Perth, basically it needs strong fronts to get its rain which have been lacking so far this winter across the whole country. At least in the eastern states we have tropical systems to fall back on. That is an enormous amount of rain for Capricornia in July, in a normal winter it should be bone dry up there (though 28 mm is more than I expected, Rockhampton would be drier).

Correction 123mm in Yeppoon over 11 days , average is 27mm over 8 days

Rocky got 121 mm and the average is 29 mm over 5.8 days.

The above is according to Weatherzone...

About 40 mm for the month here, will be dry here until at least February or March I suspect. Average min/max temps for the last half of July (when I started recording) were 8.2/16.5, quite representative of the month as a whole though missed out on a few warm maximum temps around the middle of the month.

Very Wet July at Manilla

As in June, most weather features in July were normal, except for very warm nights with the heavy rain in the second week. Sixteen mornings were frosty, one down to minus three degrees. There were several early fogs in the valley.
Of seven rain readings, most were heavy. But the 29.6 mm value included three days.

Other than rainfall, there is only one variable that is not on the July average: the subsoil temperature at 750 mm is again extraordinarily warm, at 16.9°, 3.2° above normal.
The rainfall total of 91.4 mm is in the 94th percentile. Only eight July months have ever been wetter. However, July 1984, at 171 mm, was nearly twice as wet. The 12-month total to the end of July (1020 mm) is extreme. In the last 50 years, only three 12-month totals have been higher: September and October 1998 and February 1984.
