C'mon Monday! Although I'll be at work until about 6pm & won't have the chance to get any photos, I'll still enjoy any rain we get. Thanks for the update, PVW. It will be good if it happens.

So I've gone ahead and added a weather webcam to my website!
At the moment i'm using an old webcam I've had lying around for ages to produce the images, but I've ordered a Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 for $59, which will take over the role of weather webcam when it arrives.

The pics from the current webcam are not the best quality, but show the sky pretty well. My biggest annoyance about this one is that it gets dark about 20 minutes to early in the evening!

Here's the current pic:

The picture shows the southwestern part of the sky. I was planning on showing the western half but the afternoon sun makes the images pointless from this webcam, my new one should rectify that problem.

Here's an example of the picture quality from the new Logitech webcam:

BOM CWS page says to expect a "Low" probability of a storm between 6pm and midnight tonight. I'd agree.

EC shows CAPE figures of 400 to 500 locally, up to 700 down around St Lawrence.
GFS shows CAPE values of 200 to 300 locally.

The models & BOM have backed away from possible storms for tomorrow, in favour of today. I reckon we'd be lucky to see anything.

Edit Reason: added storm info

Amazingly, storm activity is appearing on radar west of Carmila and St Lawrence.

EC gives that area a predicted CAPE of 300 to 400 for the current time, Mackay's current CAPE however is only 100 to 150.

By 7pm, Mackay's CAPE has increased to 300 to 400, Proserpine is 250, and the St Lawrence/Carmila area is 450 to 550.
10pm, Mackay is 400 to 500, Proserpine is 100 to 200 & St Lawrence is 700 to 800.

This is all based on EC.

Beautiful down at the beach drags today, couldn't have asked for better weather.
Anyway down to business, current storm conditions are poor with a cape around 180 and a li of 1.7
however conditions are getting better. Source of info was gfs.
Now time to play the waiting game!

If GFS-BSCH forecast sounding for the area around Carmilla this afternoon (4pm) is correct the instability only extends to about 550hpa (around 16,000ft) which is below the level that LI is measured at (500hpa), above that height that atmosphere is stable and there certainly isn't enough CAPE for them to push any higher. So any storms that do fire up should be fairly shallow and lack intensity.
There is a small amount lightening showing up inland from Carmilla and a bit more around Middlemount.

LOL sent many incorrect texts thanks to autocorrect/autofill!!

No worries Mick, I am still getting my head around soundings and storm formation as well, so many factors to try to take into account and then Mother Nature does what she wants not what we think she will do smile

Some storms firing up nicely but the range will most likely gobble them up.

I want to setup a weather cam too PVW. I purchased a car cam a few months ago so in the mood!

lol alright, fireplace (good alternate name). My so called "smart" phone changed the word 'skyping' to 'sloping' so need to be careful Mick. smile

Lucky PV! Positively dead boring weather here in Proserpine. Some towers went up quickly yesterday but died just as quick. High level cloud here all day.

Radar has arced up massively since my earlier post. Sarina got nailed and possibly some for Mackay later tonight if it can cross the range

What a great day down at the beach drags - well done Clinton grin (good mate of mine) - wow what a surprise with the storms hey! I was going over the footage around at Clinton's and I saw a mighty big flash off in the distance.. I headed home and grabbed my tripod and offloaded 16gb worth of pics from today (LOL).. didn't score any lightning tonight though frown Had a few nice cg's with the storm that just went though and picked up a nice 6.7mm smile
