The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 12:25 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near South Stradbroke Island and Hope Island. These thunderstorms are moving towards the southeast. They are forecast to affect the waters off from Gold Coast Seaway and waters off South Stradbroke Island by 12:55 pm.

Yep late as usual... quite common for these type of systems to bow out on approach to the coast... pathetic IMO was pretty much off the coast before the warning was issued.

Incredible! Within 5mins of my previous post started hearing some distant thunder.Went outside and the skies changed dramatically giving way to a vicious little cell directly overhead with frequent lightning heavy rain and a very strong blast of wind from the downdraught.Whoo hoo !! whinge and win. Works every time!

Looks like we might get a drenching here after looking at the radar again. Is this rain band supposed to be our storms for the day?

I am pretty sure that BoM will have to issue another alert very shortly just looking at the activity moving in from the north. Doppler is showing some pretty nice squalls embedded within the rain.

Constant rumbles at Bracken Ridge.

Still only light rain up here and we have managed to scrape out 0.4mm so far.
Nice lightning showing up on my gadget. Nothing really defined, just all over the place.

I'm about the same Coxy... just made a dash to my guage to see what had fallen. More green and yellow would be nice on the radar overhead

No, not yet. If any snow/sleet falls on the NTs or Granite Belt, it will be early morning and/or morning tomorrow. The cold pool is centred over far western NSW (e.g. Wilcannia / White Cliffs) at present.

2.6mm here in the 6hrs to 3pm this afternoon. Disappointing, but nonetheless it is our wettest day since August 10th, and more rain than we received during the whole of September.

Still only light rain here with a slight increase every so often. 4.7mm so far.
Some nice rumbles to the north and east of me, towards Bribie.
