Thanks for the kind words Mega smile Regardless how much one may or may not be knowledgeable about weather, one thing's for sure - the learning process about something as complex as weather never stops!

Thanks Trav, for once I don't want any storms - especially at 6.38am on the 14/11 for the eclipse. smile

Even this next trough looks to be a total failure (upper level trough is complete miss timed). Looks like middle of November before there is event HOPE.

Today was the first hot day here in Townsville. 31c and 20c dew points in the middle of the day. It was borderline sultry. This is the worst start to a storm season in my 15 years in the north. An endless ridge since early October. I'm at the point where I don't care anymore. Storm season is over in 3 months.

very slow start to the storm season we have been stuck with these stupid high bases LP storms. Things should change as the month progresses.

FYI I've just posted a 4 year project in the timelapse thread here.

All filmed around the SEQ/NE NSW area, so I thought I'd mention it here.

It may stave off some SDS for a bit.

Just awoken by 2 loud booms of thunder, at first I couldn't believe it and thought it was a dream till I checked the radar to confirm it wasn't. Just messy activity but certainly not something I'd even expected today.

Pretty amazing stuff CJI, what makes it more fascinating for me is "the video comprises of 10,426 individual frames shot from a Canon EOS 400D." Must of taken some time to put it all together. Great storms in there too.

Thanks for sharing it.

Thanks Colin and Raweth. I'm happy to contribute for once, rather than just enjoying everyone else's photos and video.
I think I've got the workflow pretty efficient by now, but yeah, its not exactly a straight forward process.

I think there might be some hope in sight....

As most people would have noticed, there is a surface trough moving through Friday or Saturday which technically should be good for storms (ignoring cloud cover issues at this stage).

The problem is, this surface trough is not linking up well with the upper level trough. Currently at the time the surface trough arrives the upper levels are still too warm.

Well, we only need a subtle change for this setup to be completely different. If the surface trough can stall for a bit or the upper level trough nudges to the north east a bit more we could be in business.

I note, GFS has the upper trough basically over the VIC/NSW boarder on Saturday, where as AccessG has it more over western/central NSW.

So there is some variability in the models as to where this upper level trough will be.

Can that variability please end up in our favour???

... please?
.. pretty please??

I am going to go out on a limb and say my gut feeling is it will... this is just based on my "feeling" that at the moment the models have the upper level trough trailing too far behind the surface trough. To me the models just don't "look" right.

Please don't talk this storm setup up Tejay, for once I would like it to be fine for the reasons I posted on the previous page. smile Having said that, it would make for some spectacular wedding shots if there were a few CGs happening in the background. grin

I thought it would work out perfect Inclement Weather.... when you have had enough of the relatives just drop the messege there is a severe storm warning and they should all go home straight away!

it looks like at this point that most of the storm activity should be south of the boarder. Having said that, it looks like the Southern Downs could get a good soaking!

As luck would have it, the latest EC and GFS run on Wuunderground is dialing up the instability on the Downs (Fri) and SE QLD (Sat).

At this stage, the trough and southerly change are perfectly aligned (southerly change on Sat isn't been over-run by the trough moving off the coast).

Just need cooler upper levels which this run might be starting to factor in.

I just bought my ticket for day one of the First Test against South Africa on Friday at the Gabba. Play goes from 10am to 5pm. Hopefully the storms don't hit until after play finishes. Looks like it will be overcast nevertheless during the day so it might be a good toss for Clark to win and choose to bowl. The high humidity might see the quicks swing the ball a little too. Too bad Saturday will be a washout though frown
