Thanks for posting/saving that image chapo, I have never seen anything like it. Unfortunately looks like the trough will stall in NE VIC/southern NSW around Albury/Griffith/Wagga, so may not be much today for Sydney. It's sticky though, didn't drop below 19C overnight and it's warm already. Ingredients are there for storms but I'm not expecting much, this is Sydney not Adelaide or even Renmark, Woomera or Mildura.

Another day stuck in the low 20's with a near gale force sea breeze expected this afternoon, the stupid thing pretty much blew all night nonstop!

Probably got more chance of winning tonight’s 100M than CFSv2 actually being correct, but I live in hope. smile

I think the BOM have been overshooting with their predictions of the maximum at Observatory Hill in the last few days and that is pretty common in Summer. The general circulation is a weak NNE - virtually parallel to the coast. The Ocean temps are about 19 - probably colder inshore. So the sea breeze springs up on the coast about an hour after sunrise, keeping temps there to the low 20's . There's nothing to resist it's push inland and it funnels down the Harbour to reach Observatory Hill by about 9:30 when it has reached about 23-24. In these circumstances, it's hard to see Observatory Hill getting past 25 today. On the other hand, if we applied the forecast max to Sydney Airport they might be closer to the mark, as they were yesterday.

The night here was quite muggy... might have been cooler down in Canberra but up my way, it was a tad warm, although the breeze was very welcome. The warm-up is proceeding with some speed, there's quite a lot of dirty hazy stuff in the sky though, and cloud. I can see trees thrashing around too.

Of cause we could consider that the centre of Sydney is really around Parramatta and use that for forecasts etc smile

I believe the City of Sydney council may have something to say about that wink

This is a classic "black nor'easter" situation with an inland trough which results in a re-enforced seabreeze developing from the NNE. The main benefactors from this include:

1: Heat haters living <5 km from the coast
2: The ranges, as the seabreeze provides inflow for storms to fire

Here it can still get pretty warm with a NNE'ly as the fetch is mostly off land.

CS22, I hope those maps don't turn out to be true: positive temp anomalies of 2C or more combined with bone dry conditions are not pretty for anyone. I notice there are cool anomalies out near New Caledonia which would seem to suggest a Modoki El Nino, where (it is claimed) wet season rains miss the east coast and hit further out in the Pacific. 2009/10 was a Modoki and from memory it was a hot humid summer with below average rainfall.

Wondering about storm development today the nor'easter is certainly howling here. Storm development on the ranges around sunset maybe ?

Pretty strong easterly blowing this afternoon but it's a warm one with the temp still hovering around 31c. Mid 30's another 10-15km inland so it could be worse and im still not overly optimistic about the forecast rain.

Warm dusty NW wind here too, obs say it's below 50 km/hr. Rotten thing, I hope it doesn't blow our storms apart. You can see quite a bit of green puffing up around NSW, and some to our north and our south. Don't need the wind though.

I can see what you guys who live nearer the coast mean about the sea breeze. I was at Bronte at 7 am today and it was already howling.

Yes, especially at this time of year, the sea 'breeze' on the beach can feel like a sand blasting gale.

I think a few scraggly high based cells can develop again this evening.Moisture is on the low side despite the humidity on the coast... Its a little tempting to out head west tonight.

A short video of choppy seas resulting from today's NE'er. View from Crackneck lookout at Bateau Bay on the Central coast. Also note how parched the grassed areas are after about 3 months of well below average rainfall:

Just realised Canberra copped DPs of 17C today. That's insane for November. Used to be that you could escape the humidity there, not anymore (admittedly this is a large scale injection of tropical air).

I've been grumbling about rampant humidity for a few days, good to know it's justified! It's like trying to breathe through a blanket outside, thick air. Quite a claustraphobic fog too.

Yep very humid here last two days, Tuesday was warm & humid, very unusual for early November. Still a nice drop of rain 34mm so far from this rain event with more expected.
