Ended up with a blankie on the bed again last night! Although it didn't seem to go much below 14c. That S/SE wind was a cracker.

Today's our last day of cool-ishness before quite a sustained warm spell, with some low-midish 30s Sunday and Monday. Hope that catalyses some crash-bang entertainment for us. But not tonight, only did some of the St John's Wort last night, there's heaps of it out there.

And a very large yellow snake skin, recently discarded by the looks of it, still hollow. ugh.

Yes very gloomy with not even a few showers to show for it, thankfully works keeping me busy for the moment. If current trends continue into summer then my 10 days holiday at the end of January will not be spent anywhere on the East Coast.

Quite warm again out here. About 26 or so and it feels hotter in the sun. Aircon well and truly on.

Mild in Bx overnight, about 8 or 9 but only briefly that low. Took a while to cool down.

Opticast keeps telling me there will be rain/storms/showers early next week - that would be nice if it happened. Not overly confident in it.

OCF has up to 18mm for BX next Tuesday on the 4am run, of course this will change many times between now and then, but it is a glimmer of hope. smile

Hot tip #1- Go to Perth if you want massive amounts of sunshine, I know that's where I'd be going.

Quite a hazy day here, only got to 22c, and it looks liek being a good evening for murdering more weeds, so I will. Now we have a sudden cool-down on Tueaday, with a resumption in heat on Wednesday, all very odd, it might mean an epic day of storms on Tuesday maybe.

Curious to know why you use the word "odd" so often ant. Is the climate changing that quickly?
Most of the time you use it, the weather you're describing isn't actually that odd.

Aircon on at 26°? Good grief - no wonder peak electricity comes at a premium!

I feel quite confident that coastal plain country between about Taree and the far South coast will see the first 40deg temps either next week Friday or Saturday. Models starting to consolidate nicely with a delayed and weakening approaching colder change and 850 temps should be in the mid 20's, its going to be toasty hot. Not sure if its worth starting a thread on this one.

Just to illustrate how reliable models can be more than a week out. This afternoon Foreca weather predicted the max in Sydney for next Friday would be 43. It has just updated to now be 26 for next Friday.
Don't know which model they use.

In the case of Sydney that is not model variability, but micro climate variability on the coastal fringe. Models still keen on a strong heatwave latter next week. The only thing that could ease that is cloud from the NW ahead of change at the end of next week. But so far models still keeping enough clear air ahead of it to keep the heatwave.

It was model variability. The preceding days for Sydney and Richmond were also different by up to 10 degrees. You could see it was more than an early southerly or strong sea breeze. Ed Lorenz and his butterlies at work here.

I don't think it's model variability, all the models are going for some very hot air over the region on Friday. GFS has the hot air hanging around on Saturday too, i just don't think the BOM has the balls to call it yet. Also the BOM forecast only goes to Thursday anyway, so we haven't what they think of Friday/Saturday.

The models have been solid on this for a while now, i posted about it earlier in the week.

Did you actually see the ForecaWeather forecasts for Richmond yesterday? When the forecast for Richmond changes from high thirties/low forties to high twenties for Tuesday to Friday next week I call that model variability.

That aside, I will be praying and sacrificing goats to the heatwave gods to deliver some oven heat next week. About time too. On a scale of 1 to 10, yesterday's weather in Sydney was just crap!

Have you even looked at the models yourself ? They haven't changed regarding the end of the week.

Also the BOM forecast doesn't even go to Friday.

EDIT

OCF forecasts show 40c in the Hunter valley for friday, coastal heat will depend on the sea breeze.

C'mon now, group hug. I look at the models every day. I'll assume you didn't see ForecaWeather so here you go - http://www.foreca.com/Australia/Richmond?tenday.

At the moment this heat event is slowly but surely collapsing into an inland only event IMO, on current models there's no chance of anything even close to 40 here. With the huge temperature differential between land/sea the sea breezes(sea gales?) will be screaming on the coast. EC has significantly downgraded its 850tís in the 12z, which is not really surprising as 28c was just never going to happen.

I see that the Sydney Radar is currently unavailable and the reason for its being unavailable is also unavailable. Still, it looks like today, like yesterday, will have little or no rain.

We should have a name for days like today, like California's May Grey / June Gloom. We get a lot of days like today in Summer when there is a weak general SE circulation: partly could or sometimes fairly clear early, with cloud rolling in about 9:00 to 10:00. The cloud usually breaks up during the afternoon but, like yesterday, not always.

I work in what is basically a tin shed with little or no insulation. In warmer months it is almost always noticeably hotter inside than outside on sunny days, which is what we normally have.

Currently it is 24 inside (climbing rapidly) and 19 outside. When it's 26 outside it is well above that inside - hence the aircon. Also we are smack on the highway, it's too noisy to open windows, we can't hear on the phone etc so it's windows closed. It's actually a very bad building for temp/ventilation and noise.

In the winter it is bitingly cold in here.
