At the mid point of May, Sydney looks to be tracking close to average for temperatures but has been fairly dry, e.g.

OH:
Temp: 12.6 to 21.5 (-0.6 to +0.2 compared to 1981-2010)
Rain 14.6mm (12% of May average 1981-2010)

Bankstown:
Temp: 9.5 to 21.7 (-0.7 to +0.4)
Rain: 0.4mm, less than 1%. No rain from event just finished.

First half of May average temperature has been calculated as 75% May + 25% April averages.

The Sat pic showing the low in the Tasman and the GAB, both spinning tops - quite a pretty dance too smile

However, I think you have picked the best looking one smile

Certainly looks like the "Opening Weekend" of snow season will (as they mostly are) going to be lacking in snow. Longer Term GFS seems to like the idea of plenty of slow moving Highs dominating for a few weeks.

No surprises there though smile

That low will be spinning up some decent swell thats for sure.

Yeah nothing on radar for ski season. Can only hope for some cold nights for snowmaking.

alas a coral sea inflow will put pay to that.

Quite a pleasant day here, not exactly warm but no jumper required at this stage. Well I'm going to check the surf/swell out!!

Yes Donzah - it will just about be "tools off the ground" time now at the resorts.

Around end of May looks to be a change slightly possible. At the moment the highs are expected to be keeping it way south. Maybe if a gap between highs opened a bit that one could push more north. Too far out though and clutching at straws smile

Looking quiet in reality for late May & first week June.

A few weeks ago I thought the cool changes were the early onset of winter but I guess they were just a disruption to the Autumn weather. I would definitely say it's not winter yet; it's cool enough on the coast with SW/SE winds being a regularity but not frontal at all.

Today is another one of those S/SW wind days that is beautiful and sunny but rather fresh. We don't usually get proper SW winds here but they have been common. It's normally westerlies or southerlies with no in between. Currently a SWly blowing.

Well I have just checked the beach out, some nice waves rolling in probably about the 5ft mark in height with odd bigger set rolling in occasionally, our beach is very well protected from a SE swell. But it does look very lumpy out wide though.

Obviously picked up a bit since yesterday then. I saw the beach yesterday and waves were probably 4ft on a south facing beach. But very messy and choppy.

Might have to check it out today but probably won't get the chance.

I'll wait and see what these inland troughs do.
Sometimes they can alter that dominant ridge over Australia

EPS Control and Long Term GFS hints at a node coming in the first week of June. And perhaps 1800m for the 23-26 May period with a dusting to the Main Range with GFS and EC agreeing.

With the drop in SAM and a favourable MJO for a tropical feed, the potential should be good for a nice cold front in the next 2-4 weeks.

Wintry night, going into town for dinner.
Now down to 12.1C at 1940, going for a 7C minimum.

The BOM has really backed off the totals for Sydney over Fri-Sat (just as the media starts running with it haha). Easy come easy go!

Yeah no doubt they have, NBN weatherman called early up here saying there wont be big totals in the Hunter.

6.9c was my overnight low, shaping up to be another nice day.

Okay. That 23-26 May system has been ridged out on GFS and EC, with only a dusting on the Main Range on GFS. But a system around 1-5 June is gaining ground on EPS Control and GFS long term. But way too far to give it much accuracy.

Yes that 31st system is given the interesting treatment by GFS - as you say - long way out.

That's the one I was watching and had a suspicion something "might" come of it.

Of course it may disappear completely yet.
