I agree with the others.
Pacific Hwy (A1)/Ryde Rd (A3) and then on to the M2, is a long way round. Sometimes, they can also be a nightmare.
Just put up with Pennant Hills Rd I reckon.
The only other suggestion is Galston Gorge (not Berowra Waters), through Round Corner and Castle Hill and Bella Vista and then onto the M7, But this would also take a while and you'd need to know where you were going.
Just put up with the traffic. As a couple of the others said, you might strike it lucky and get a good run.

Can tell the weather is exciting when the talk is about best driving route directions he he he. I have a simple plan for travel to or through Sydney. Get in and out as quickly as possible. Whatever route achieves that the better.

Thanks Homer, I guess it depends on the time of day. If I leave in the early afternoon then Pennant Hills Rd should be alright but later than that and I will consider Galston way. I've looked at that route and it doesn't seem too hard to navigate. I wouldn't mind going that way for a more scenic route.

And Knot that's what like about this forum!! We go off topic when there's no weather rather than just going quiet.

Not in the gorge though.

Mate, if you're happy to go Galston way, it's a really nice drive and you'll see some lovely autumn foliage, lovely acreages and the gorge is a nice drive anyway. Just take it slowly.
What day are you planning on making this trip? The traffic can be as bad, if not worse, on weekends in certain parts. True!

I just use google live traffic.

Pretty much tells me how bad the route is. Its a must if you ever ever consider the M5.

I drive around Sydney two to three times a week. Getting to know lots of random suburbs now.

and yup, a lot of weather coming from the coast. Proper chilly and wet.

Another off topic question

Good place to mount a temp sensor on a car? Mines had it...and i'm looking at getting a portable one and mounting it where it should read correctly (ish)

Interesting total rainfall forecasts for the metro between now and Sunday.

Richmond...... - 1 mm to 3.4 mm's
Terrey Hills... - 2 mm to 14 mm's
Sydney........ - 9 mm to 35 mm's
Bondi......... - 18 mm - 52 mm's

Quite a variation, particularly between reasonably close near coastal suburbs.

Very true WR. Can't be 100% weather raving. Partic during those times like the past weeks when there has been little to rave about.

My temp sensor is mounted in the passenger seat. She tells me I'm hot he he he

Yeah I agree. You could nearly put a one in front of those figures that I posted, especially after what happened last weekend just gone!!

Yep. Sounds like it.
Of all the places, unfortunately the Alps won't be getting much at all.
I'd love for Bondi's 50 mm's to be down there instead!!

I live in hope. I've seen stranger things happen (40cm overnight from Nothing once)...

Then there was this - serious snow from Cooma to the Alps

Yeh, I've seen some crazy falls before from nothing systems, as many of us no doubt have.
Like you, yes, I live in hope!
