Feel like I woke up in Darwin or something. Very warm and uncomfortable.
I think the low in qld might change the wind dynamics and keep strong nor westers from forming. If it were strong high be otherwise. Like Gringo said, if the southern low was at a higher latitude it could be real nasty pressure grad wise.

Tell tale signs that we had some H2O fall from the sky last night as outside is wet in parts.

The old look underneath the tree check confirms it wasn't much as it's dry. The radar rainfall maps show the thinnest sliver of rain I have ever seen. laugh

After how hot last summer was and now this one, I can't say I have any interest in the heat. I am looking forward to a change in the seasons as a means to an end to this nightmare. The only thing weatherwise that I'm really interested in is rain but it's not showing much interest in me. poke

Leave for the South Pacific on my cruise tomorrow, seems like cyclone Gita may rock my world instead. laugh poke

Anybody noticed the central pressure of the low forecast to cross WA coast a week or so out? Previous runs had it heading away with pressure down in the 800's, but current GFS run has it crossing with pressure still under 900.....pretty intense looking low.
Its good that WA has been spitting its dregs at us all season. May have helped reduce heat just fractionally.

Good luck on the cruise I'm sure the Captain will plot a safe course for you, where are you heading to New Caledonia, Vanuatu or Fiji? Coz it looks like STC Gita is bypassing Fiji and heading for Vanuatu & New Caledonia before slipping towards New Zealand early next week.
It's been a hot above average summer in Canberra too but at least the nights are getting longer and starting to cool down a little. We'll all be moaning it's too frosty soon. We still can't control the weather but we can up to a certain extent control the environment within our house, car and shops.
Enjoy your cruise,
Teddy

I reckon the tap is finally turning on from Monday with GFS, EC going for 45+mm in a 10 day period, whereas Access-g is indicating a some decent rainfall for the east coast. Let's hope this sticks.

Cheers BLAIR - yes it was quite an "interesting" winter last year grin

Gunna be a tad warm around the state today.

Meanwhile there is the possibility of snow above 1100m in Tassie this evening smile

Hey DIPOLE - consider a diversion via the NEW ENGLAND instead of the Newell to get cooler temps for a while, also a pretty drive.

Quite hot this morning. We're at 32.6 already with a reported maximum of 35. It didn't drop below 24 degrees last night making it a little uncomfortable to sleep without aircon. Looking forward to next week with the potential rain forecast 10-20mm for Monday.

Yes, next week does look wetter from Sunday afternoon / evening. Nothing spectacular, just a change to normal late Summer conditions.

Interesting to see the models showing an intense tropical cyclone crossing the coast at the Pilbara, crossing WA, escaping into the Bight and re-intensifying to possibly bring wet and stormy conditions to SA, Vic and Tas.

---

The cloud over Sydney is breaking up now. It was another warm night, the second consecutive minimum above 23 and the sixth above 21.5. There are light N-NW'ers which don't seem strong enough to overcome the sea breeze, but it will warm up quickly from now until the sea breeze gets going.

Strengthening winds out here now - quite blowy, breeze feels ok temp wise.

Just under 29 degrees but doesn't feel hot in the breeze.

As an aside -

2 WEEKS TO GO!!!!

Official Summer ends in 2 weeks.

Of course the weather gods are often QUITE ignorant of the arbitrary Dates we humans impose grin

In another few weeks, we will feel the little drop in night temps long before it really happens for many of you guys smile

Thanks, DaveM, might be a good idea, might also defer trip until next week.
I do want to try the Bunya mountains for a couple of nights, only just over the 1000m mark but might be cooler.

High winds now in suburban Canberra, visible dust being raised. Total fire ban is understandable.

Only very light winds here with the sea breeze up and running on the coast and working its way inland. Oddly enough, the BOM updated the forecast at 11:46, still expecting NE-NW winds to be replaced by W-SW winds 20-30 kmh 'in the middle of the day'. I wonder what that's supposed to be?

Anyway, at this stage it looks like OH peaked at 31.2 but Sydney's West, at 34-37, looks to be well on its way to 40.

The 0-14 rainfall chart looks promising, with over 60mm for parts of the coast including Sydney in the 0-7 day range and more widespread but lower falls the following week: GFS Rainfall Forecast

Yep fingers crossed we are heading to some wet stuff that will do more than wet the cement.

Winds have turn light to moderate and gusty westerly here. Im glad they arent any stronger....though there is still time to increase.

Fire at Putty looks to be really ramping up.

Northwesterly is strong today, even enough to take out the 360 degree sea breeze exposure at Nobbys Head. Heading fast towards the high 30s now, and going for 40.

Sea breeze is wearing thin now in Illawarra. Albion Park has jumped to 37C with a westerly, while Bellambi is still a cosy 27C in NE wind. I am hoping for an offshore when I knock off this afternoon and head for a surf.

I was outside 10 minutes ago and there was not a breath of wind. Dead still it was.
Now it's howling - quite strong and gusty.
It came through more like a southerly hits. I could hear the house creaking which what alerted me to it.
