South West Slopes: "snow above 1300 m", and Temora only got to 12° C. Very cool in the Far West.

Apparently, the "snow season came to an end", as stated by BOM...my arse! laugh

Just gotta love the Aussie climate grin

This event has been a bit disappointing for Sydney with only light to moderate rain at best. I only picked up 6.9mm on my PWS Parklea, not the 30-50mm that was originally forecast for Sydney. Current radar has a line of storms going through Wollongong, doubt they will make it into the southern suburbs of Sydney.
At least the heat and humidity are gone for now!

A cool, gusty wind has started up. I think the real cool change has arrived. The temperature has dropped by 2.5 to 17 at OH, it's only 13-15 on the Illawarra.

There's no rain or sparks accompanying the change.

We collected about 12mms for this event, with perhaps another millimeter in it if lucky.

A thunderstorm finally made it to our side of the divide at 5am this morning. It was weak, and probably only scoring a 1/10, but it did deliver a burst of nice moderate rain, and numerous overhead flashes and fairly weak rolls of thunder. No CGs whatsoever. I gather there was enough forcing and dynamics in play to get a cell to the coast, despite being most stable time of the morning.

The morning was mostly dry after that, with the rain setting in late morning, but rarely getting to moderate thresholds. There was a noticeable line of heavier activity that gradually pushed from Southwest to Northeast through the course of the day. Not sure if this marked the true cold front, but convection along this line led to heavier albeit brief falls.

The storm on the mid north coast was interesting this afternoon.Black coring, and veering east against the steering flow for a good while there. It then collapsed quite quickly, perhaps undercut by southerly winds. As it died, it started moving southeast again almost instantly. Hail was gorilla sized, I would love an official measurement, but it was in the baseball to softball range. Dewpoints in Kempsey leading up to the storm were in the 22-23c range. Combine this with 33c temperatures and sunshine, and you get some pretty serious CAPE capable of producing potent updrafts. A triple point seemed to be in play as well. Wish I was up there.

I saw some footage on Facebook of the hail, certainly impressive.

Just the 0.2mm here today, it took quite a few hours of light spits to accumulate too.

We managed to scrounge 13mm extra overnight out of this event which threatened to be a total dud in this neck of the woods. So with 6mm yesterday, it was an ok freshen up.
Models, mainly GFS sniffing at a cold pool and good event 6 or 7 days out. Lets see if it sticks

The rain got going again in Sydney after 11:00PM, with another 15 mm or so in the next 5 or 6 hours at OH. The rain was accompanied by a swing of the winds to the W-SW and a drop in temperature to a minimum of 11-12.

Most of Sydney has finished the event with around 10-20 mm of rain, Chatswood finished with 19, OH (the gauge now working) with 22.

It's now bright and sunny with a cloud bank retreating to the East.

There's already another NW cloud band forming over WA, slowly growing. It would appear this same trough will be responsible for our next lot of weather around mid next week followed by another system according to EC. The SST anomalies offshore are on the extreme end and should offer some fuel for approaching systems.

Here's a report on yesterday's hail storm in Port Macquarie: http://www.weatherzone.com.au/news/port-...ilstones/528737

----

A cool, sunny day here. It looks mild and sunny until mid next week, then we get a repeat of the event just finished. It's like La Niña, the troughs following highs filling up with thick cloud and rain.

Looks like a cool night tonight, already down to 15-16 across Sydney.
