Well for the first time since I was 16, I will be having a week off between Xmas and New years, near enough to 30 years!!

Hoping for some serious heat myself, with the odd serious storm thrown into the mix.

This was taken on Sunday morning.
On Saturday arvo, this road was covered in flattened tall eucalypts and was closed, causing traffic mayhem in Castle Hill.

GFS us still keen on heat Thursday. Access is no longer interested and the BOM forecast seems to reflect that. EC never believed it.

At this stage they're all agreeing on crap weather (cool, overcast, no serious rain) for the 21st-23rd, a warm, sunny Christmas and Boxing Day, with maybe some heat around 28-29th.

----

Regarding past weather on another important date in December, here are the maxima at Sydney Airport for 25/12, 2011-17:

28.2, 20.7, 21.5, 29.4, 26.6, 28.4, 22.4

So of the 7 years: three fairly cool; the remainder average or a little above; none particularly hot.

EDIT:

Yes impressive photo Homer, you wouldn't have liked to have been in that bus shelter at the time.

Some nice crispy convection out west today but didn't amount to much.

A pic from last nights decaying storm, had plenty of them the last few days, hopefully the next system gives me a direct hit.

Indeed Eddy. It was actually quite scary here when that storm passed through.
I'm not surprised at the local damage that I've witnessed.
Quite shocked that there hasn't been more tv coverage considering the damage around the local suburbs.

Best video of the winds from the storm on Saturday I've seen.

Appears to be taken on Church Street, Parramatta.

Furthermore, I'm not a tornado(even mini) conspiracy theorist.

It was just a supercell and it hit here really hard with an amazingly scary fast moving gust front. That's what did all the damage.

See my post and pics in the weekend storm thread and tell me if this was a supercell or a Tornado at Grays Point on Saturday evening.

Surely the forecast can't be right. It shows a sunny Christmas day and 29C! And GFS shows no rainfall anywhere in the state so it looks like we will have a really nice Christmas day for once.

I guess we're getting the typical Christmas day weather out of the way a week early.

I see Thursdays heat is all but gone - early/mid thirties inland and late 20's maybe a 30 on the coast.

Yes indeed.

GFS extended, if it came to pass, would be a most welcome extended xmas present.

GFS has 850 temps of 30C for Canberra at 6Z Thursday, that would translate to about 42C if skies are clear. There is a huge temperature gradient in place, 850 temps of just15C 100km south.

Will be interesting to see what eventuates.

40 in Canberra in Summer isnt all that uncommon. And GFS Ext only 2 days ago had TCs for northern Aus...grain of salt.

40 would be the hottest ever recorded in Canberra in December.

Other models much cooler.
