I think Canberra's November record is slightly higher than it's December record (39.9 vs 39.2) so a 40 might be achievable in December.

EC has a tongue of heat streaming down from the NW right at the end of it's run, in the meantime it's looking pretty wet especially over this weekend.

Bit surprised at the Canberra Dec record being only 39c.

I remember the day it was set vividly here in Sydney as it was the start of the school holidays and mum had taken us to the St Marys aquatic centre, where the pool was packed to rafters with billions of kids and the water was as warm as the Persian Gulf in August. I think temps maxed out around 44c that day, at that point it was the hottest day I had ever experienced(I was only 10).

NAEFS (North American) global temperature forecast has a distinct warm signal for most of Australia, including the Central and Southern NSW Coast and Tablelands, for 8-14 days out (Dec 26-Jan 2):

-----

Drove up to the Central Coast today. From a cloudy morning with a couple of sunny breaks at home, it cleared up as I headed North to sunny at The Entrance. It was a beautiful afternoon for lunch outdoors. The cloud closed in as I returned to Sydney.

NAEFS has been showing near normal to below pretty much all of Spring up to recently, so something is brewing for the last week of DEC. Looks like more of southern/inland event than for us this far east though.

At this stage GFS seems to be showing an epic Heatwave affecting most of NSW including the coast either side of New Year, but we know to take that with a grain of salt. There is heat building up in the North and Centre of the continent which will go somewhere. Maybe South rather than Eastwards.

Meanwhile, GFS and for a while Access were showing significant heat on Thursday, which now looks to be a short burst of warm (but not particularly hot) and unstable weather, possibly stormy.

Again, we'll see how it pans out.

It turned out to be a mostly sunny day in Sydney. Well, at least where I was; the city.

You must have returned after 3pm when the sludge started to close in again.

Strange that.
It was actually mostly cloudy for most of the day today where I was working in Castle Hill.

The forecast drizzle has arrived on the North Shore.

I found this morning's forecast confusing. Cloudy, drizzle and 26? I though cloud / drizzle or 26, but not both. As it turned out, sunny and 26-28 near the coast. Penrith did make its forecast 28.

I think the cloud will prove harder to shift tomorrow. I'm expecting overcast and 20-22 all night and all day for the next 24 hours, maybe with some clearing tomorrow evening, maybe a bonus addition to the maximum Thursday morning.

EDIT: the NZ Met charts seem to give a better idea of what's happening on the NSW coast. A cold front just South of Sydney at 11:09 AEDT becomes a stalled front just Nirth if Sydney 6 hours later. The stalled front drifts back down the coast as a warm front by Thursday dawn: NZ Net

Outlook for January to March is warm, with below average to average rainfall: BOM Outlook Jan-Mar 19

Warm, sunny and humid here, with the cicadas in the nearby stand of gum trees going full blast.

Storms forming around the CT's. I know this is a long shot but with how powerful the sheer is today wonder if any would creep into the metro.

Agree - now trying to search for it will historically be annoying frown

Actually I'm going to start a new thread so we can dump all the data & pics there.

If everyone can add the info there - http://forum.weatherzone.com.au/ubbthreads.php/topics/1482008#Post1482008

Perhaps a mod could just move everything across?

I figured they might be able to move posts in bulk relatively easily

It'll probably take me about an hour with 220-225 posts to move since the morning of the 19th, as most posts (the ones which have '[Re:Grant]') will have to be moved one at a time. I'll try to get it done at some point today.
