Would it be possible to have a general stickied question and answers thread where those that are trying to learn could ask questions and receive answers from those willing to provide them without interuptiing the threads down below?

I've often got questions but don't want to interrupt the flow of discussion on an event and understand that some don't want that flow interrupted either.

The General Weather sub-forum, or the various day-to-day threads (e.g. NSW day-to-day weather) are good places to ask questions. cool

The addition of the General Science Forum is an excellent addition to the forums but it's impact is completely lost with it being placed right at the bottom of the Forum lists.
I would suspect that most posters and lurkers on these weather / climate forums are by nature and their interest in weather and climate are very science orientated and would be keen watchers and participants in a more prominent General Science Forum.

There is a whole rag bag of science related subjects that regularly turn up in the weather and climate forums that could be included in a General Science forum.

My suggestion is that the General Science Forum be given a far more prominent position in the forum lists

Never be scared to ask a question in a thread. You can bet pounds to peanuts that if you need to know then there is probably quite a few others who want to know as well so you should never be scared of interrupting the flow of a thread. If you can't/don't want to ask a question via the thread then PM a member and if they can't answer it they will probably know someone who could and forward the enquiry on to them.

A suggestion would be to have a sticky at the start of each area like the ones in the cyclone area or possibly a WZ Wiki where it can be edited by members and would gradually build to a large area of information. I have set these up on a couple of forums and they can be valuable resources or utter nightmares depending on how they are moderated.

The Question do i have to Submit Post for the URL i see to Convert into the photo or am i doing something wrong. Plus what is the difference between floating and non floating?

Non-floating would be the one most people use. The left, centre, and right options change where the picture will be aligned (located) on the page.
Make sure you're putting the direct link to the picture (e.g. http://www.bom.gov.au/nsw/sevwx/hailfact2.jpg or http://www.bom.gov.au/australia/radar/images/sample-radar.gif note the presence of .jpg and .gif on the end of the addresses), rather than the web address of the page where the picture is located.

If the image appears when you click 'Preview Post' then it will work when you fully submit the post. If it doesn't work in Preview Post, then it won't work when you fully submit.

Anyone know why marine weather warnings for SEQ are appearing in the Herbert & Lower Burdekin?

Just noticed a significant discrepancy that perhaps the gurus out there can explain: the WZ page for Orange AWS currently shows 3.30pm temp to be 33.3 deg rising from 32.3 at 3pm (nice pattern there), while the satpic annotation 'obs rose' shows 35 deg at 3pm???? Perhaps the obs are actually for Bathurst although they are written over the top of the word 'Orange' on the image? The obs seem to line up better if this assumption is made.

Issue resolved. The obs rose on the satpic is, in fact, Bathurst, but given the large map scale appears proximate to Orange. Orange (and Bathurst) obs roses are readily available & distinguishable via the smaller scale radar image (Syd or Wollong).

Since January 19th all the Daily Summary entries are rounded to the nearest degree instead of the first decimal. Example here.

Is this a change in the feed from BoM or what? Is this the new format or a temporary aberration?

It means you don't see what they wrote.
For ignore user - at the top there is a link called User List.
Click on that link and then search for a user you wish to ignore.
Click the link for that user.
You'll then see the 'Ignore this user' link.
Click that link and voila.
