Fires in the Wellington Ranges are not good - too hard to access. Autumn tends to be dry down there and stable weather. Hope some ok rain comes soon.

Later in the week it is forecast for mid to high 20's but it seems more NE winds than NW which MAY bring a little humidity. No real sign of any significant precip on the eastern side of the state in the near future. I used to live in Ridgeway and dreaded fires on Wellington.

Hope the winds don't get too active. At least nights should have cool air falling of the mountain tops, that might help a bit. Obviously very dry fuel loads though. So yes you need a wet circuit breaker for sure.

Thanks everyone , according to the Tas Fire Website the fire is still going but they have pulled the air mounted attack. This may be a sign that it's slowing down ? Conditions are much milder today. Will just keep our fingers crossed smile

Well Hobart has equalled it's hottest Summer on Record set back in 2000 at 23.3 degrees.
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-03-01/hobart-matches-hot-weather-record/4547342?section=tas

The trend is set to continue as the first tens days of this month look like being 6 to 9 degrees over average every day and very little chance of any rain. AHHHH mad

Maaate - how unlucky, you will be hotter than us in Bathurst this first week at least. Gee high 20's when you should average only 20. Good luck. smile

I wish we could send our almost non-stop drizzle down your way MOUNTAIN h2o where it would do some good, or better yet the rain still to come for the Capricorn Coast where they really need a break. It would have those fires extinguished in no time.

Just came across this & made me want to come back to Tassie & revisit all my favourite places! Might have to visit this place next time.

Regardless of the weather something to celebrate smile

Well another 35 degree day , another bushfire. It's on Hobart's Eastern Shore at Risdon Vale . Smoke and flames and helicopters can be seen bombing it. Currently out of control . Will see if I can load some pics later.

The balmy summer rolls on, was hot and muggy at Savage River on Tues and Wed - up around 30(of all places...usual drizzle and cold wind has been missing for sometime), now 30 along the coast today.

Severe Thunderstorms around Campbell town, Fingal, Friendly Beaches earlier this afternoon. Could see the mushroom tops and anvils from well west of Burnie.

On the plus side the tomatoes have gone nuts in the last couple of months and now i'm drowning in them.

Food fight!!! (to get rid of excess tomatoes)

Not many cool changes getting through there the last month or so. Amazed that 35 was down there again. Very Very rarely would we see 35 here in March.

You have had a rough trot down there - much hotter than Bathurst at times. Also the nights have not been that cool either down there.

However, a good cold change on the way - get up on Mt Wellington for a few flakes on Saturday. If I was still living there I reckon we would have organised a bbq at the chalet for this sat night smile

Hi Everyone, Well the BOM said showers last night and we got zip.
Today they have changed to showers developing in the morning, from the radar and looking at the mostly sunny skies I'll say we will get very little if any. Now looking at the NZ thread about the North Island and reading about the blocking Highs, that's what happened here last Winter and the place also looks like a desert. I'm only new at this but my gut feeling and given what last Winter brought us and also looking at the chances of rain ahead, Southern Tasmania will be in the same situation in the near future. Here's hoping those Highs don't come back again this Winter , but it's not looking good.

Once the cooler changes start pushing northwards, southern Tas will get showers. The models are already showing signs of the changes getting closer to you over the next few weeks. Actually about March 23 - 25 looks like a fair chance of a stronger change for Hobart.

You have had a tough summer this year and a warm Autumn so far. Sadly the weather is usually relatively dry around there in Autumn but I do think showers will increase with the regularity of cool changes for you. Hang in there. smile

Radar atm shows showers from the west down there (not getting to you - mountain lee effect) but the models show the wind getting more southerly and when that happens you should hopefully get more showers around the Mt & Hobart.

GFS for about 28th/29th of March has a big red bullseye right near Hobart. I don't think you would want the bullseye but good rain from a SE would be good.
