Definitely colder than last night I reckon, already at 18 here too. Wonder if we can hit single digits this early in winter grin

It dropped to 16 at 9.30 went back up to 17 at 10pm and is now on the way down again. Still 3-4 degs cooler than this time last night.

Definitly cool still but did not quite feel as cold this morning as it was yesterday morning. Maybe a deg or more warmer I would guess.

We went down to 14.3 degs. Half a deg warmer than the previous night. It got quite breezy at home this arvo with that large high down south. We're a reasonable chance of some good showers in the next couple of days as those winds go around to the sth east.

Looks like showers will extend through much of the week. Stronger ones will be south of Cairns in the Innisfail, Cardwell region... decent accumulated falls... softer further north.
Having said that I'm thinking far better weather than that.

Spent the weekend at my Nans old house in Mirriwinni tending to some TLC work around the place. No rain to report there.

Was sad to see Babinda mill being pulled down knowing 2 generations of our family work there.....such is change.

Here in BP 8mm of rain overnight.

Yeah I saw the jaws working away at it a couple of weeks ago Pac. Hopefully the replacement plan generates some jobs.

12mm overnight at home.

Is there any real plan to revitalise Babinda? I have a hard time believing it has real future unfortunately.

15mm last night.
Re Babinda, the plan for the mill site as I understand it is mixed use. An RV park for grey nomads is definitely part of it as well as some residential (already quiet a few cottages on site) and also light industrial where the mill proper was/is. Overall it is quite a large site.
As for the mill... after Maryborough Sugar Factory (MSF) bought it and already owning Sth Johnstone and Mulgrave at Gordonvale they had more than enough capacity to handle the areas crush... particularly after losing a contract to crush a lot of cane coming out of Tully. In addition it was very run down and they simply didn't want to put any more cash into it. In short, sadly for those who worked their lives in it and for the town, it no longer stacked up.
Here's the council's spin on it.
http://www.cairns.qld.gov.au/about-counc...babinda-mill-da

ALSO... while I was looking the council thing up I noted on the site the four day mulch give away still being promoted (ends 5pm today).
I laughed as I went to Portsmith to get some yesterday and they had run out 1.5 days early.... good planning. Lets see how they go with Babinda.
