Well we're about to break 150 years of records (in Sydney), and most records around here too, with the highest average July monthly maximum.
A shame we didn't get the individual July day record, but there were record spates over 20c.
We now have 27 days gone, well on target, with above average forecasts virtually guaranteeing the records are broken,
Such deviations from the norm - isn't that exciting enough for everyone?

Boring? I dont see whats wrong with it.. was a pretty good day, the only downside is the cold nights. The cloud will fix that tomorrow and monday by the looks.

It was so warm here, with no wind, it really felt like spring was on the doorstep. Obs say it was 15c in Canberra, but it was quite a bit warmer up my way, it went past 16c, that's for sure.

4 here on that coast and 8 up at Mt Boyce. That's a little backwards.

Blackheath had virtually reached its average July maximum by around 9am...

Have never seen a July so warm, I am in shorts and thongs this morning. Very enjoyable but also very strange, this warmth.

This month has seen a persistent N component to the winds over the Blue Mountains making for an amazingly mild July. I assume this is in large part a result of all the frontal sytems tracking further S than usual. Noticed that the interior is already starting to heat up (Alice 27C today). I'm going to be bold and call it, aside from one or two weak systems that will bring temps back down to near average for a few days, August will be much the same as July. Winter 2013 is done and dusted.

I don't think its such a bold comment really, probably the most likely outcome is warmer than average for August up here. I still sense we will have some relatively strong fronts to come but not sure they will save the ski fields.

Still, once it heats up in the centre and we are already having issues with a persistent sub tropical jet, winter dying in the bum early is the more likely outcome...

I'm not sure the anomalies will stay as large and record breaking as they are in July. Two months in a row of widespread records is pretty unlikely.

I can't see a massive shift to cold dominated weather though, the patterns aren't really forecast to shift that much. From the forecasts before Winter, no one would have predicted it be this benign, temps were meant to be average to below average.

It would be handy to know what time period the BOM uses for their long term forecasts.

Whats the betting that the rest of the winter is mild and then as soon as we hit spring we have a shift in the pattern and we get some very unstable weather with strong southerly changes and a scud fest on the coast.

I just have a feeling that October to December will be dominated by southerlies or south easterlies this year, Winter will be October this year. Nature has a way of compensating one way or another.

Have to agree Eigerwand & Blizz that we now seem on the downward or upward slope to spring with winter never really getting started. Feels very spring-like today with a max of 14c here.
I think winter has also seemed warmer that the temps suggest due to the number of calm days - no wind chill at all today.
Hope August ends up like ?2008 when we had that high anchored south of WA pushing front after front our way but there is nothing to suggest that will happen at this stage.

15.1C in my screen today, I was in a t shirt this arvo. Was talking to a local today that's lived here for close on fifty years and he said he's never seen anything like it. And he's probably right.

There is potential for frontal weather next weekend. I would be very surprised if snow didn't come to the highest parts of the BM in the next three months.

Yes, I'm feeling the same thing. The bite's not in the air, apart from last weekend. It feels like the 3rd week in august already. My narcissus are coming out, I had to restrain myself from starting to prune things! I've got onion seeds in the heated germinator and when they're up and on their way, spring planted annuals will be going in. Then the tomatoes and chillis.

Next front is looking the BM's best chance of snow we have had all winter. EC and GFS are now aligning quite well with some quite decent falls possible along the CT's if it comes off. Unfortunately it lies on the weekend of the AGM so it will be interesting juggling both wink

Feels like the end of August to me here. At least the -5.7 on Saturday was good. Days too warm though. We will have a catch up somewhere, either spring or summer will have a catch up for us but I'd rather see a proper winter.

It's so non winter that I have only about 2 weeks wood left and I'm strangely considering not getting any more. Bizarre thinking for late July. I probably will get more but to be even toying with the idea shows how silly the season is for me and heaps of other areas.

It's already gone past 15 degrees here, this is September!! We have a f/c of 17, will not be surprised if it beats that.
