Looks like a band of rain moving north up into the Hunter as well, inland, as well as coastal, should see what is in it before long.

Won't be long and the rain will set in here, it's bitterly cold out in the wind and it will probably get worse.

Only 11.1c on my station and I'd say that will dip as it starts to rain.

That's cold for Norah Head, my MIL will be frozen to the core at North Entrance.

I don't believe the obs, it says 10.3c in Canberra. I just walked over the Costco for my lunch and it was bloody cold. Quite a vicious wind blowing. Got the promised precip before dawn, but it wasn't cold enough for snow although the nasty southerly did its best.

had enough of this, it says 15 and 16 for the weekend... bring it on!

Another rainband on the way, this one looks more solid than the last. Temp dropped to 8.5c with the previous rain and is now sitting on 10c, should drop again soon smile

OCF really pumping up the heat through the red centre for end of next week! Next Friday has a 33.9c for Alice Springs and 35.9c or Oodnadatta, that's approaching levels seen during the Aug 2009 heatwave in those areas. cool

Yep, just checking out the 850 temp charts on EC you can see the descending air really heating up across the NW of Aus and then getting dragged SE and then east by the more active systems repeatedly hitting the SE of Aus. Sun is warming up quickly now - so my guess is that this is likely to carry on happening until the SAM relaxes a little (forecast for later this month)and the temperate systems drop back further south.
Always amazes me that the snowier the weather seems to get in the SE corner, the warmer it gets further north. Makes sense when you check the charts out and factor in the strengthening sun though. Classic early season bushfire weather on the east coast before the wetter onshore flow kicks in.

The radar says it's raining here, but it's not. I can see some mistiness to the south, Monaro Hwy area, but no precip here. I don't think we'll get to our forecast high either, it's stayed chilly again. Having doubts about these mid-teen temps forecast for tomorrow but will be delighted to be wrong.

Topped out @ 7.9C here so far, I am getting pretty sceptical about mid-teens tomorrow as well.
I see the airport snuck up to 11.1C near 11:00, they must have had a burst of sunlight to get that!
Tuggeranongs max of 7.9C matches mine perfectly..

Good grief, look at the forecast now, 17c tomorrow. Really? Such a dank, miserable day today, how is all this warmth going to suddenly get here? I don't get it!

I think someone went and put something warm on the airport temperature thing.

I reckon you'll get your 17 Ant - we will be heading for a lovely sunny 16 or so here today. Already feeling tropical outside with an early hitting of the 10 degree mark already.

Already a windy 16.2c here and 17.6c at Williamtown. As usual the wind way stronger here than down in Sydney, gusting over 40kph here which makes 17c feel like 10c frown

Wow, what a cracker of a day, the BOM was spot-on for me, last time I looked at the console it was just nudging up to 17c but spent most of it outside in a t-shirt, gardening.

The canberra airport got to 19c!!!!! But I didn't, that brisk NW wind, warm as it was, put paid to that. It blew strong all day although it's gone now. After the dull, COLD, miserable week we've had, today was quite a gift.

Well you are right 19.3C at home in Tuggeranong yesterday a pleasant surprise, a bit of a shock with the -2.8C this morning though & -3.9C officially at Tuggeranong I don't think BOM was expecting that!
Only 6.5C now it will be a struggle to hit 16C unless this cloud burns off.

I think Winter 2013 is finished on the coast, to the extent that it ever really started. If we define Spring as starting when most days reach 21C / 70F, which roughly corresponds to mid September in the Sydney area, then looking at recent weather and the forecast, we're there already.

That doesn't preclude the odd outbreak of cold. After all, the biggest snowfalls on the Central Tablelands last year occurred on October 10 after it had already reached 30C several times on the coastal plain. And we'll probably get a couple wet spells, which people think of as cold even though they're generally not, especially for minimum temperatures. But now, even though the highs are tracking closer to their 'textbook' paths, the cold fronts are weak and barely penetrating past 35 Deg S. And even though the surface chart doesn't look particularly 'hot' (e.g. no long fetch NW'ers), it's still forecast to pass reach or pass 21C on 6 of the next 7 days in the Sydney area.

Another sign of Spring - the leaves on the Jacarandas are starting to turn yellow, in preparation for their October and November displays.
