What else to they do but look out of the window, apart from repeat trips to the vending machine.

I think we've had a weak cold front pass through here. It's been quite windy and now pretty overcast, with the temperature having dropped by about 3 degrees. I note it's only 13.8 at Bellambi although there has been no rain there yet.

The sky here LOOKS like a snowy wintry sky. It won't snow but it has all the appearance of it.

We have strong cold winds and cool temps (now about 9) with some solid showers in the last hour.

Fire will be lit tonight. smile

Here in Macquarie park, just saw a flash of lightning, quickly followed by thunder - the first I've seen in a while. Intermittent light to moderate showers.

Yep DM it has that wintry look/feel abt it esp with the windchill. Sky thickening up atm for another shower across the Orange district. Earlier 0.6mm dropped the temp at the airport a couple of degrees in 30min. The wispy cloud tops and clear blue sky in between indicates the coldest air in this setup is passing thru. Reports of sleet/hail/snow from the central eastern ranges since midday.

Could be just about it for here. Extended blue sky now in the NW sector of the district, cloud off to the SE/Blayney sector. Kookaburra parked on a branch outside my window for the last 10 mins. Must be enjoying the late arvo sunlight because it hasn't moved!

big surprise DaveM - haven't been following things closely of late. So nice I'm thinking of canning my Weatherzone sub so I can live in the moment like a dog - lot to recommend it!

Would love to be in Merimbula/Pambula/Eden atm, that area of the NSW South Coast seems to be coping a few sparks from a thunderstorm associated with the trough that has been affecting us in Victoria over the past 24 hours, hope it's a really stormy summer ahead for Southeast NSW/ACT! smile

A nice little surprise with some cells moving into the basin atm. Would love to hear a rumble but any rain is always welcome.

I note that it's quite warm at high elevations and getting warmer, e.g 17.6 degrees at Mount Boyce (1080 m) and 18.2 at Mangrove Mountain (300 m). The Mount Boyce temp is equivalent to about 24 degrees at sea level.

The weather map shows three cold fronts heading this way but this year they inevitably die in the bum as a approach NSW, arriving on the Coast if at all in a very attenuated form. Either that or they dive to the South East.

Yes Steve777, but hopefully they can retain enough strength to send at least some weather activity from Victoria northwards into NSW/ACT, including snow in the Snowy Mountains. I might be heading to Corryong in Northeast Victoria this weekend, hoping I'll get a chance to slip across the Murray River at least once, and see some snow, even if it's just off in the distance. I miss New South Wales so much, I haven't set foot there since last Easter (and that was only in Albury), aside from flying over on the way between Melbourne and Queensland (Brisbane and Cairns) back in July, but that doesn't count haha! grin but anyway hope to be back in NSW real soon! smile

Edit: does anybody know whether there's much snow left around Mount Kosciuszko, especially on the northwest-facing side of the ridge? Just thought I'd ask out of curiosity.

There's still plenty although i'm not sure about the NW face. 'Richard's Report' is a good honest opinion of the high country conditions and he updates the blog 2 or 3 times per week. Here's his report from yesterday:
