Going by the latest model runs (ACCESSR and GFS) it will be quite late - probably not until around 10pm to midnight (closer to 10pm where you are and later for the western suburbs).

BoM at 5.33pm now saying "late evening" too.

Will be worth checking tomorrow for updated timings.

my thoughts turn to my friends and relatives who live in NSW/ACT for tomorrow, 31C for Canberra and 39C for Sydney, along with 34C in Wagga Wagga, 28C in Katoomba, 33C in Merimbula, 34C in Bega, and 36C in Batemans Bay (just to name a few places that look set to roast)! Stay cool and drink plenty of water, and hopefully no bushfires this time around frown

I noticed the first Jacaranda blooms for the year as I was driving around Sydney's North Shore. I'm sure that this is a couple of weeks earlier than normal.

Yep. They are flowering earlier this year. Our tree usually lags well into November due to it's position but it's already budding.

Love the smell of Jacaranda blooms but it still evokes memories of late nights completing final papers and studying for final exams at Macquarie University.

Very chilly here this morning, down to about 1 or maybe zero in parts. All the campers up this way would have had a cool one!!

Have to say since I have been back in Sydney this last month, the weather has been near perfection in terms of warmth and low humidity, definitely encourages a outdoor lifestyle. Great City!

This Sydney weather has been very warm for this time of year, with July, August and September being the warmest on record and October so far tracking close to the record. It has been dry for anytime of year, with just 88 mm of rain at Observatory Hill since July 1, less than one third of the average. It has also been exceptionally sunny.

This weather won't last into Summer. Onshore winds will take over from about the end of this month, with an increase in humidity and more frequent showers. SE changes followed by a day or two of dull, overcast weather will become a frequent occurrence while dry, hot, sunny weather will become less common. I suspect that many Sydney people will be disappointed with the Summer when it arrives. Even in a normal year, Sydney gets its best weather in Spring. I remember from my student days in Sydney how the weather seemed to go off around the time I finished the final exams for the year.

I reckon some storms might become strong over eastern inland parts of the state today (Sun) due to the strong shear and a favourable region of the subtropical jet streak. Raised dust is also a chance over some inland parts. Here's the latest outputs from my thunderstorm and dust scripts for today:

P.S. the latest RFS fire danger rating map for today doesn't bode too well either: http://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/dsp_content.cfm?cat_id=1109

Damaging wind gust really hammering the Hills District now, some pulses must be getting close to 100km/h. All areas around Sydney included in Sever weather warning but bypassing Sydney??

I always see the Christmas holls as the main change period around Sydney. December in to the first week of Jan is traditionally the peak bush fire season and a dry spring continuing to Christmas happens. Not saying these conditions will last to Christmas this year mind.

Last October we had a strong SE change every week it seemed before things turning very hot in Dec to Jan.

I always think the worst month to visit Sydney is February, usually pretty humid, cloudy and wet.

But yes summer in Sydney can be disappointing and December 2011 showed just how bad a summer month can be here.

I hope not Steve777. Those sort of summers are even worse for us up here in the Blue Mountains. Days, even weeks of drizzle, the odd hot day thrown in with no 'nice' weather until about mid/late March. I have a feeling though that perhaps given how unprecedented the heat has been this year we may see something a little different this summer. Still think the weather your talking about will come at some point but if it doesn't get here till February I wouldn't be surprised if we see one of the hottest summers on record.

This aint good. There's now at least 2 fires under an Emergency Warning status near Newcastle as per the current RFS info:
