17.1mm in the 24 hrs to 9am, hopefully they got a good drop across the Port.
Big difference in temps from yesterday 35.6 to todays temp 16.4, quite cool with a stiff southerly blowing, should start to warm up a bit later this arvo when this cloud moves offshore!!

It has been a slow start to the storm season here in Canberra, but some things don't seem to change, namely that almost invariably, when activity kicks off on marginal days like today, it's in the area near the Tinderry Ranges, in the vicinity of Bredbo, Jerangle and Michelago.

Just looking at that on radar, reaction to a very fast moving cold pool. 500mb chart shows it well, but also has it offshore by 11pm.

Would love to be in Sydney (preferably one of the coastal suburbs facing east like Palm Beach, Manly, Watsons Bay, Bondi, or Coogee), or points south to Wollongong, Nowra, Ulladulla, or Batemans Bay, some sensational offshore thunderstorm activity occurring in that region, I wonder if anyone's out trying to get some footage? smile

Nice dump of hail down there. Radar image of the storm at Malua Bay:

There was a similar kind of hailstorm up here at end of August in 2011, including hail cover on the beach: http://forum.weatherzone.com.au/ubbthrea...h_A#Post1009445

mmm yeah saw that footage on the TV news today and looked stunning!

Looks like a bit of temporary relief might be on the cards for some eastern parts of the state later this month - 1st image is total precip over the next 14 days in inches from the FIM model:

That bushfire is pretty big I believe, certainly was sending up a very large smoke plume yesterday evening.

Bushfire controller said it would not be put out by firefighters - too dry, too windy, hard area. Started on Newnes Plataeu and they reckon it will head towards Darling Causeway (between Bell & Mt Vic)

GFS reckons big rain about Tuesday, others don't like that idea much at all. Might be a good time for GFS to be right.

Mt Boyce has just recorded a wind gust of 95kph with the wind direction swinging NW to westerly. It will be savage conditions out on the plateau right now!! A number of areas mainly east of Lithgow into the Hartley Valley area are now highlighted in RFS major threat reports.

Wind has switched more Westerly now and is cooler. Should stop the fire spreading in a southerly direction. It should move more SW later. Temp lowering a little.

The Southern Highlands and Lithgow fires have very obvious smoke plumes on radar.

Certainly do show up well on the radar! Look very substantial fires indeed.

Still above 30c generally down in Sydney with a WNW wind.

At time of writing, there's currently 6 fires under Emergency Warning status (current RFS incidents map at http://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/dsp_content.cfm?cat_id=683 )

Cooling down nicely here the last hour or 2 now. Wind more southerly and definitely cooler. Very blustery and strong still just cooler, dropped a bit over 3 degrees the last hour.
