Jon77.Sydney had 60mms+ only a couple of mornings ago,so you are not to dry down there, but it was onle a coastal storm only i must say,I up here south of Cessnock only measured about 10mms,a fellow called GringosRain who lives about 5kms east of me measured 35mms,so it shows you how hit and miss storms can be.

Yes. The weather patterns do follow the Gregorian calendar.
Now that November is almost upon us the NSW coast enters the next season called Scud-mmer which is from November to February.
Followed by Scud-tumn occurring from March to June.

Not in all cases, Been plenty of summers where we have hardly had any cloud or rain,to have a decent summer in Sydney we need the winter pattern from November to March, or to have Australia around 1500 kms further south towards the South Pole, then the southerly changes will be a thing of the past lol.
Or time to migrate to Perth until next may

It's turned into a cool, sunny, breezy afternoon in Newcastle, quite pleasant on the deck out of the wind. Bit of a contrast to this time yesterday.

Wind has died down here Steve777, quite steamy when the sun is out.
Steve777 are you holidaying or living in Newy?

Just staying here for a few days to help with family. I normally live on the lower North Shore.

Disagree, Sydney and the surrounding bush is still VERY dry indeed. The rain was as you say restricted to a few coastal cells and those small areas fortunate enough to be under one got hammered, the majority missed out.

At my home near North Parramatta I haven't registered any recordable rain at all since the change that went through last week that made the roads damp.

My brother, a little north west of Windsor, got just under 2mm the other day. Not much but he was ecstatic.

I was supposed to be heading up to Corryong, Northeast Victoria back in late-September/early-October but didn't get a chance too, but I'm heading there this weekend smile

I've heard reports that the snow has virtually disappeared from the NSW Snowy Mountains (after a pretty poor winter snow season), apart from patches mainly on coastal facing slopes, as shown here on the Thredbo Mountain Cams:

http://www.thredbo.com.au/mountain/live-cams/

Maybe the expected cold front and cold outbreak will bring more than just a mere dusting of snow to the peaks or will the air be too dry? Any thoughts about this?

Good cool air for the Snowies and flakeage for sure on higher areas. I can't see much precip though, orographics will probably help a bit.

Tanks DaveM! smile

Apart from the expected cold outbreak, the weather forecast for Northeast Victoria and Southeast NSW/ACT looks pretty good for the Saturday-Tuesday period, I'm sure Tuesday morning will be pretty frosty in the wake of the cold outbreak (an overnight low of zero for Corryong for Monday night at this stage) but I guess it'll depend on whether it's windy or not so we'll just have to wait and see...

Otherwise forecast highs of around the 20C mark (showers for Sunday as the cold outbreak goes through, perhaps some hail and/or thunder as well... but otherwise partly cloudy or mostly sunny), still awaiting the fierce heat to start building into the region for the summer and hoping for some storm action by the time I return in January! smile

Another week next week in western Sydney for me. Another boring weather outlook I see. I dont even get excited about coming down here anymore with the prospect of severe weather. I havent seen a good NSW thunderstorm yet.

This weather is just down right depressing , and damn cold for this time of year. This is the 9th day in a row where the temperature has fallen between 20-22c. Not good frown Might get 36hour reprieve from this puss, before the next cold blast. No sniff of a storm in the next 2 weeks either, is it November or May? I really dont know.

Personally I am quite enjoying the fresher weather. It was unseasonably hot for so long and this freshness makes getting outside and getting a few jobs done much more pleasant.

I would take a week or two of cold and very wet southerlies, especially the wet bit, we really need the rain still.

Also the air quality over Sydney has improved a good bit these last few days. It was shocking for a while and needed a good southerly flush out.

Not sure whether the fires are all out yet but it has been a relief over the past two days to see the smoke gone from Sydney.
It truly has been awful.

Passing through Bells Line later today - will be interesting to see what the "view" looks like.
