Just had a real quick deluge here as well. Radar isn't looking to bad atm. It's all moving quick, should be some quick heavy falls around the basin soon.

Heavy downpour just came in from thr east causing gutters to overflow for 10 minutes. Next line moving in from the north. Hope it delivers another burst.

Has been a bit of a flop for us here so far. 20-40mm yesterday did not happen.

Ah finally something to post about! 37.8mm in Penrith thus far, good soaking rain with minimal runoff as well. Fires should be well and truly out by now smile Looks like another 10-20mm on the way for today and even more on the coast. Was certainly a long time coming!

I am very happy this morning. Was woken this morning by the sound of rain slamming in to the window and the gutters rumbling.

Really good heavy soaking rain for a good number of hours, fantastic stuff.

Had a little look at the garden soil this morning and the rain is well in to the top soil.

As mentioned the fires should be well doused, smoke pollution after this rain clears should be gone, yayyyyyyyy. Great stuff!

A tiny surprise of this event is the amount of snow on the Perisher/Blue Cow snow cams. Looks to be a solid 10-15 cm's, maybe more. It's been a little lighter at Thredbo, but still a solid dusting.

Light and heavy rain alternating, but surprisingly only 16mm in the gauge from the event. That doesn't include the 9mm from the line that moved through on Friday. Kind-of expected more, especially if Belconnen's had 30mm.

8c, with the wind now mostly easterly.

You can see the spin on the radar of the low off the coast from Sydney.

Yes, I guess that rain events are rare enough around here to have the total daily mm's of the event rather than BOM's 24hr reading.
I had 5mm on that friday and 32mm now, total 37mm of very steady soaking stuff, will try to give a cumulative total.
I spoke so much about it to my better half, I would have been in big trouble if it had not occurred. A lot of pot plants were put in on my advice.
It seems odd, the rain system is coming from the NE, but wind is steady SE.

Looks like the main event is over now for the Basin as the low spins out to sea. I wonder if there will be some storms around this afternoon if we get some clear sky. The sun is out further north:

There was also a strong looking cell around Dungog this morning.

However, the main models are going for cloud to hang around all day in Sydney. Storms look like they are a better chance tomorrow.

Another shower approaching here from the NW, than that is it for the time being, but with the sun coming out, storms could develop later, I think,35MMS,so far,at least it has layed the dust.

Bucketing down in Chatswood, with gutters overflowing and water flowing on the roads. Haven't seen that for a while. I've been indoors and away from windows for much of the morning, but it seem not to have stopped since at least 7:00. Looking at the radar lst night I noted a solid yellow blob passing over the Lithgow-Bilpin area, so hopefully the fires are out. Water is passing over Lane Cove weir for the first time since June.

Forster topped the charts with 130mm to 9am, followed by Maria river on 116mm and then Port Mac on 114mm. What's interesting for them is a bigger trough/ECL system modelled for next weekend bringing another potential 200-300mm for the MNC (though that could deviate given the time frame) with another 50-100mm for most of the eastern half. Potential flood event in the making perhaps

Just had a good period of moderate rainfall. Brings it up to 27.4mm for this event so far. Looks to be a clearing trend now into the afternoon but this will keep the grass from dying now!

I hope it bodes well for a change in rainfall patterns into summer.

Looks like it's giving up here. Radar shows it clearing out, getting big easterly wind gusts and the sun peeks through occasionally.

Bugger.

There is the chance of a follow up event on the weekend but it's already looking pretty weak according to OCF and yr.no, probably just showers. I am happy with what has transpired with this event, the question now is where we go from here: regular top ups or a slide back into hot and dry. The NAEFS ensemble has us in cooler conditions for most of the month so that's a promising sign.
