A few little cells just popping up on the radar just off the coast between Sydney & Wollongong , that might be interesting to keep an eye on

Yes been watching small towers rise and fall all over the place for the last couple of hours.

A few heavy drops starting to fall in the CBD now. Hit and miss though; sun shining in the Eastern Suburbs.

Just had a decent moderate shower here in Sydney. Could be time for a thread to be started for the next 7 days.

Dew points have been climbing nicely of late.

I just noticed that Nobbys Head dew point is over 20 degrees. It may have already happened this season but the first time I have seen it.

So things getting nice and steamy as Spring rolls into Summer. I can almost hear the Kikuyu growing in the still of the night now.

There is a fair chance of a high 30s/possibly 40C day in the Basin in about a week's time, most likely Friday the 29th. There is some cloud on the models though so not sure it will eventuate, but 850 temps certainly getting up there.

From WZ news today:
"Uneven share of NSW rain
James Casey, Monday November 25, 2013 - 15:13 EDT
Parched western NSW missing out on the record breaking November rain in the east.

While people along the coast have been hit by record breaking November rain our neighbours to the west haven't even received a drop in some places.

Nobbys Head in the Hunter has already received 215mm so far, making it the wettest November on record. In stark contrast, Bourke, Fowlers Gap, Tibooburra and Wilcannia in the Upper West haven't even recorded a single drop for November.

Bourke has recorded less than a millimetre of rainfall since mid September and could potentially have its driest November in over a decade if it fails to record 0.6mm in the final week of November. Elsewhere, Cobar has only received 0.8mm, just 2% of its November average (36mm).

This dry spell has caused farmers to miss yet another harvest and forced graziers to offload their stock.

There is a chance for some rain before the end of the month as a trough moves through the west of the state on Friday. At this stage there is only potential for a few millimetres in the west, with eastern parts of the state likely to receive another soaking."

The locations cited here should extend into the CW slopes and CT's where it has also been unseasonably dry! The deficits may not be as extreme but they are quite significant nevertheless.

I think the BOM has overcooked Sydney's forecast maxima today. There is a very weak N-NW general circulation which will provide no resistance to the sea breeze, which is already starting up. There is only a weak Westerly at Mount Boyce.

So I think Observatory Hill will struggle to get past 26, let alone 30. It's hard to see places like Parranmatta getting to 35.

Anyway, I can be proved wrong in a few hours.

The BOM has knocked 4 degrees off the Sydney city forecast. Surely it's cheating to do it at 11:30am!

He he - cheating indeed. I wonder if the BoM still do their own metrics on forecast accuracy. If they do, then are these fudging forecasts skewing the results?

I agree with Andrew regarding the late arvo heat. The potential is there with Mt Boyce on 27; I always add 10 for the basin if that air mixes down. It may well do that late today in particular for places like Badgerys Creek and west of there.

It looks like Penrith and Richmond both maxed out at 36.2 around 5:00PM, compared to the forecast of 37, so the forecast there was not as wrong as I thought it would be. Bankstown (proxy for Parramatta) got to 33 compared to Parramatta's forecast of 35.

It's not beyond the bounds of possibility that the temperature at OH might spike this evening after the sea breeze drops, as sometimes happens on these types of days. However that's unlikely so 26.5 looks like it, 3.5 degrees short. As to what most people living in the inner and middle suburbs actually experienced - about 30 (29.3 at the Airport and 30.8 at Olympic Park). And at the beach? It would have felt almost chilly at 22-23 with the 'sea gales'.

Yes, it looks like the CBD got what was forecast for the Beaches, and what I call the 'Hinterland' (Strathfield, Canterbury, Hurstville) got what was forecast for the CBD. Mind you I don't blame the BOM, 925 hPa temps were right up there and the temps at Mt. Boyce are proof of that. Would have expected at least 31 deg here today which was what OCF and yr.no were both suggesting.

Not that I mind it being cooler than forecast mind you wink.

I think the BOM has got it wrong again today. It's not clear what the BOM thinks will cause the temperature to rise by 3 or 4 degrees to 24-25 under thick cloud cover that's not going away and cool, brisk S-SE'ers. I wouldn't be surprised if it got cooler as the day wore on.
