Got to 38 at my place today so looks like temps up into the 40's here for the next week. Will be inside though in the air conditioning as I have sprained my right ankle and my left knee.
Duane.

Been out raking leaves and bark. Conclusion: it is warming quickly, a stiffening breeze is coming from the north, and the eucalypts are in drought mode again. Reminder: Have you revised your fire plan (including the family) recently?

The sea breeze (gale) was in full affect yesterday, gusting to almost 60 km/h in Newcastle.

Pitty some moisture from TC up north would'nt move down this far to give us some good rain, everything brown here, and all the creeks have dried up,pleased I dont have to buy water like some people do around here in the Quorrobolong area who are not on the mains.but down in the Morisset area yesterday all the grass is lush and green, they must have had some good rain down in that area.

Yes, last night's NE sea gale felt like it was one of the strongest this season. Council bins getting blown over and loose objects clanging about in the dark were the order of the evening.

A colleague does twilight sailing on Sydney Harbour and reckons last night was not enjoyable. Broken bones and broken boats become a real issue; finishing the race in one piece is victory enough.

That was astroturf Stormy wink It is funny how quickly the grass tries coming back. My 'lawn' has been white for a few weeks now but we got 0.2mm yesterday and in the one bit that gets a bit of afternoon shade, it went green and started growing.

Not enjoying this heat on the building site.
The gusty NE'ers have been welcome relief at Roseville, but it's still been hot. The sun is stinging.

Hope some of this moisture up north moves south down to here, the cloud mass up there on the satellite pick looks like it might.

We simply need this pattern to break down. It has been like this for well over a month now, this blocking high in the Tasman and low moisture levels. The result, no storms, no rain and lots of heat pooling over the south! In all my years of chasing, I cannot recall a storm season being as dead as this, although there have certainly been some times when it has been as dry (02/03). Here is hoping this pattern breaks down. Some longer range models have this pattern breaking down mid February.. some aren't, allowing another wave of heat over the south!

I can report that earlier today a cloud ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud ),momentarily blocked the blazing sun. Really caught me off guard.
Currently 39 and something skidding behind Michelago heading NE. Brings back memories of the good old days.

We actually have some drops of liquid stuff coming out of the sky in Deakin. Astonished cries of "is that rain??!!" reverberating around the office....

Further to the above - paved surfaces are now actually wet and there is the possibility that there might be some water flowing into gutters.

I am assuming that anything falling after 9am today will count towards February and won't change my total of 4.5mm for January.

Canberra radar looks OK atm:

http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDR403.shtml#skip

Steering winds SW'ly on the Far South Coast but they turn more S-SE'ly further north, so not holding out any hope for Sydney. There is a very weak southerly change progged for tonight though, but far more potent setups have failed so far.
