Lovely photo mate smile I went for a dip yesterday and the water is absolutely CRYSTAL clear! Perfect winter weather if the temp was a little warmer and the wind lighter.

My old Canon 40D is at the end of its sensor's life and the few kit lenses even more tired. So I bought a Canon 6D and a couple of nice lenses. Since I've had the 6D I've kept the picture settings at a NEUTRAL level and shot everything so far, at manual settings. I got up early this morning to look at the heavy frost and force myself to start reading the camera's instruction manuals ... just the English versions, mind you. The instruction manuals, not including the Picture Editor's tome, come to 886 pages.

886 pages? It would be quicker to do a 4 year course in professional photography full-time at an institute of technology.

I left reading the instruction manuals and went back to rolling around naked in the frost ... it was easier on my brain.

From the old 40D. Montague sunrise, taken at South Narooma Beach.

You will love the 6D WW! I have one myself and it's a giant leap ahead of terms of higher ISO performance etc.
I wouldn't get too caught up in the manuals mate, in my opinion they only make things seem far more complicated than they really are! Canon platforms are all pretty similar anyway.

What lenses did you pair it with?

Here's a snap taken on an extremely dark night at 3200 ISO on the 6D with a small amount of light painting in the foreground.

Orebound, G'day. Do you know? the only thing that I wanted to find within the several manuals, was the lens correction data for one of the lenses, which was supposed to be on particular page of one of the manuals. The reference for it, in another one of the manuals was wrong. Life is like that. Obviously Canon need an accurate editor, to count the pages.

I don't take the manuals too seriously, but I do want the correction data ... if it exists.

The new lenses are Canon's 17-40L and the 100-400L. The big lens is a very nice lens. When I plonk the 100-400 on the 40D the focal lens becomes 1.6x the focal length to become 620mm (at 400mm). Cool.

Warren.

Reilly, thank you for the look at your recent images.

Orebound, I finally sorted how to correct the aberration (the dark vignetting) that happens to the 100-400mm zoom at the lens's greatest focal length. Not with Canon's missing lens data ... but with Canon's 12 year old Arcsoft 5.5 editing programme. Canon's Arcsoft 5.5 is now a free download.

Nice photo Warren and thankyou for acknowledging my photos, much appreciated smile I forgot to mention that those photos were taken on a three day hike through the Royal National Park south of Sydney.

Heres a photo I took last Friday using the "Dramatic" filter on my camera. I generally don't like photos have an enhanced setting put on, but I quite like this photo smile

GDL, that is a jetty on Lake Illawarra near my house. Come to think of it though, it certainly does look like the Bundeena Jetty. smile

It has been a relatively smoke free Winter, this year. I've been waiting for Victoria to light up, as they do each year. They've been a bit late this time exporting their cool burn atmospherics.

The early morning Southerlies yesterday brought a fair bit of smoke with them. Then the calm conditions at midday allowed the smoke to settle in the ranges. Early evening was very pretty.

Blundells Hill, ACT.

A smokey Brindabella Range, ACT/NSW.

Bonney Well when Jacci and I went down to Devils Marbles - about 100km south of Tennant Creek. Was a crucial water source in the desert for explorer John McDouall Stuart and later on for the workers on the Overland telegraph line.
