What the hell!

Woke up this morning and couldn't believe my eyes looking at the latest track map.

I'm surprised with that forecast that we're even still on Cyclone Warning.
I doubt there'll be gales within 24 hours if that latest track comes off.

Tsunami, I agree completely with your post about forecast events getting put back further and further and then not happening.

Still inaccurate though, should be mostly cloudy with the chance of a brief shower or two.

Having said that, this has been an extraordinarily difficult system to forecast for, and the BOM have done a pretty good job so far. smile

Yeah I would agree RD. I wouldn't want their job anytime soon.. How did people cope with cyclones before social media to put crap on poor old BOM all the time. What it comes down to is - if it happens, it happens. If not, oh well we have something else to be disappointed about but life will go on.

going by what the BOM say now, its all over!
not a chance of even getting heavy rain now. we only stood a chance if the low/tc moved westward before going north. now west of bowen wont see anything at all.

TROPICAL CYCLONE ADVICE NUMBER 12
Issued at 11:03 am EST on Sunday 9 March 2014

A Cyclone WARNING is current for coastal areas from Lucinda to St Lawrence.

A Cyclone WATCH remains current for coastal and island communities from
Innisfail to Lucinda.

At 10:00 am EST a tropical low was estimated to be
355 kilometres northeast of Townsville and
375 kilometres north of Hamilton Island and
moving south southwest at 9 kilometres per hour.

The tropical low has not shown signs of development in the past 24 hours,
however it may slowly intensify and develop into a tropical cyclone on Monday.
The system is expected to move in a general south southwesterly direction
before becoming slow moving and shifting to a north northwesterly track on
Monday. However there is greater than usual uncertainty regarding the track of
this low.

GALES may develop about coastal and island communities between Lucinda and St
Lawrence during Monday.

Heavy rain, which may lead to flash flooding, will develop about coastal and
nearby adjacent inland areas between Townsville and St Lawrence from today.

Large waves may produce minor flooding along the foreshore between Lucinda and
Hamilton Island. Tides will also be higher than normal. People living in areas
likely to be affected should take measures to protect their property as much as
possible and be prepared to help their neighbours.

People between Lucinda and St Lawrence should take precautions and listen to
the next advice at 2:00 pm.
- Information is available from your local government
- For cyclone preparedness and safety advice, visit Queensland's Disaster
Management Services website (www.disaster.qld.gov.au)
- For emergency assistance call the Queensland State Emergency Service (SES) on

People between Innisfail and Lucinda should consider what action they will need
to take if the cyclone threat increases.

JTWC no longer expecting the system to become a Cyclone.

The Tropical Cyclone Formation Alert has been cancelled.

Quote:
THIS CANCELS REF A (WTPS21 PGTW080200). THE AREA OF CONVECTION PREVIOUSLY LOCATED NEAR 15.7S 149.5E IS NOW LOCATED NEAR 17.3S 149.8E, APPROXIMATELY 226 NM EAST OF CAIRNS, AUSTRALIA. ANIMATED MULTISPECTRAL SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOWS THE LOW LEVEL CIRCULATION CENTER HAS BEEN DIFFICULT TO PINPOINT EVEN AS THE ASSOCIATED CONVECTION HAS BEEN SHEARED SIGNIFICANTLY SHEARED TO THE SOUTHWEST. UPPER LEVEL ANALYSIS INDICATES THE SYSTEM IS JUST NORTH OF THE RIDGE AXIS IN AN AREA OF MODERATE TO STRONG (25-30 KNOT) VERTICAL WIND SHEAR. DUE TO THE UNFAVORABLE UPPER LEVEL CONDITIONS AND THE LLCC BECOMING ILL-DEFINED, THE SYSTEM IS NO LONGER EXPECTED TO DEVELOP INTO A SIGNIFICANT TROPICAL CYCLONE WITHIN THE NEXT 24 HOURS. //
