What about that upper low? It's feeling a bit left out Eevo. Keep in mind, steering winds are around 700-600hPa and not really much to do with the high.

Fair few showers now starting to move up through the Mallee and onto the SE slopes of the ranges... Could be quite a wet evening for places like Strathalbyn and Mt Barker..

the upper low is bit unless without a lower level foundation.
just like a house, you can build one without a foundation but it will be crap.

high level storms that arnt build from the ground up are boring storms.

if the lower level moisture steam penetrates as far as Adelaide, i think it will be a great day for all.

Lets see if this mini rainband can penetrate the ranges and not put us in a rain shadow!

Seeing very light falls over the area, been watching it develop.
To Adelaide's forecast now: as following

Rest of Tuesday
Partly cloudy. Isolated showers. The chance of isolated thunderstorms late evening. Winds south to southeasterly 25 to 35 km/h.

Wednesday
Partly cloudy. Isolated showers and the chance of isolated thunderstorms in the early morning and evening. Winds southeasterly 20 to 30 km/h, easing to 10 to 20 km/h in the afternoon. South to southwest afternoon coastal sea breezes 15 to 25 km/h

Thursday
Partly cloudy. Isolated showers and thunderstorms becoming scattered during the afternoon. Winds easterly 15 to 20 km/h becoming southwest to southeasterly during the day.

Now that's a Forecast

Lennie's point was that you didn't even mention the upper low which is what is essentially bringing us all the weather from now till Friday... Without the upper low the trough to our east would really do not much at all west of it....

and btw, forcefield's are a myth... wink

because the base isnt there.
without the base the upper low is unable to produce anything spectacular.

re forcefields: we'll come back to this on saturday smile

you have still missed the point. You did not mention the upper low. No-one is debating that you don't need the surface trough.

ULL (Upper Level Lows) are usually detected on the 500-700 hpa maps, basically the Low is the trigger to activate the trough, no power, the light bulb won't activate.

I'm struggling to remember such a fast retrograding low coming in from the east.
Had some rain (shower) but nothing registered. .2 mm at a guess.

Bring on the next 72 hours.

Oh and another point, it's unusual to see 2 lows with similar lattitudes in their current positions. Normally a front would approach from the south west and wash it all away.

I like it when unusual and even unheard of events happen. smile

Cause it's not relevant, you need to walk before you can run. We're still trying to walk so no point mentioning running.

Upper lows don't need sfc troughs or lows, they usually cause them to deepen not the other way around. You can have upper lows in the middle of a huge high and get cracking storms, seen it many times before.
