Nice bit of rain here at present. Puddles on both sides of the roads. They haven't met in the middle yet, but getting there. We had a thunderstorm about two hours ago and the temperature just plummeted!

I'd say that is very likely based on temps & radar returns in the region... Any peaks higher than 800m should be a chance..
I'm sure being during day time we will see a few pics starting to flow through media and social media...

I'm skeptical for now unless we are talking someone actually seeing the snow fall in person, which will be truly remarkable if it happened! Certainly some very powerful coldies up that way in that stream could drag down some of those very cold mids and maybe produce flakes, but if we are talking white capped hills i'd be thinking more just hail. Having said that I'd love this to be true, early May snow events are very few and far between!

8.4 now, the coldest it has been all day. Teeth chattering weather.
I think hail may be a bit more widespread as the atmosphere will be a bit more cooler, more showers and hail on the cards for tonight until tomorrow arvo.

Yer Mark, I'd certainly be waiting for evidence to back it up, thats why I mentioned beinjg daytime, if there was snow, there would be pics.... but then as you said, if its distant shots of the peaks, its hard to tell if its hail or snow...

With Clare and Eudunda at 6C at 400m, chuck on another 400m it would certainly be getting close!!!

Blair mentions 11.9 for an early season low temperature. Adding onto that, there have only been four days before the 10th of May below 13 (10/5/1978 was 11.5):

25 4 1938 11.9 M
28 4 1952 12.6 M
8 5 1898 12.6 Su
9 5 1905 12.7 Tu

Todays record low maximum is 13.2 (1944)

Fair few of the showers running over the water, some on land coming up. Thinking another 5 to 10 mm can fall from now to 9AM tomorrow. Out of the both systems, 43.4 mm of rain, not bad, would love to get that to 50mm, good chance.

I would say that snow report around Mt Remarkable is a distinct possibility! Temp at Yongala at 3pm was 6.3, even Eudunda at same time 6.5.

Down to 7.7 here, early minimum, BOM forecasting 7, may go lower me thinks!

I would think, based on the Port Pirie AWS numbers, that the snow level would be somewhere around 750-800m in the heaviest showers - enough for the top of Mount Remarkable, not for Wirrabara unless maybe it's the reference to the top of a hill near there.

Mt Lofty getting into interesting territory down to 4.0c, one decent coldie goes over, ya just never know!

Should add apparent temp at 0c, first time that its hit that all day!

Do you really think as low as 750m? I see that Pirie has been in an almost constant stream (with hail) and represents an ideal situation where mixing has occurred and has only gone as low as 9.0 when the snow was reported. North-west of Wilmington there are a few 700m peaks, other than that there is only the Mount Remarkable ridge that I can see that extends above 700m over a large area. If it is 'snowing in Wilmington area', and this indeed infers more of the local hills, the majority of which peak at 600m, I can't see how it would be possible for snow to settle. There are no roads or properties that I know of in the high areas for anyone to have actually gone up there and really confirmed unless people are up for a hike in driving rain and hail.

I mean in my experience snow would need to be very heavy to settle at any more than 1 degree or so for people to be able to see it from the plains. 8 degrees assumed difference over best case scenario, 960m of altitude, even that would seem to be a struggle in my eyes. I'm really curious about this, as often there are images of Mount Remarkable white capped, but never anyone to head to the summit to confirm. Given todays conditions and the strength of that stream (cannot wait to see the areas totals) I'd see significant hail drift from near constant hail showers as the cause, but again I'm very curious of your opinion smile
