Nice photo, that really looks like a solid storm and it's so dark that you can hardly even see the top of Yacaaba Head! smile

Light drizzly showers coming down here on and off this morning and quite cold, it wouldn't surprise me if it stayed cloudy and wet all day here. In fact I'm really doubting the forecast of a clearing shower.

What a difference a day can make, yesterday cold blustery SE winds with very little sunshine and today partly cloudy with SE winds that are warm and humid!!!

Recorded 5.2mm in the 24hr to 9am

Agree Eddyg. Last nite whilst driving home there was a cold blustery shower at swansea. Today a downpour just after 9 am. Then sun poked head out and humid feel went up noticeably. Just had a sun shower. Bit more grey stuff now. Virtually no wind. Longing for some strong S' Westers. put on a jumper yesterday but only coz it was cold in the movie cinema.

Feels ridiculously warm ar Swansea Heads for this time of year. sky has that warm look when high cloud from NW. Wot is it frigging going to take to haul high pressure belt to higher lat. Fair dinkum. Us cold weather lovers are suffering.

It was rather mild here as well, hitting a top of 20C with moderate northerlies, and yeah the cloud definitely did have that "warm" look.

It looks like we will finally have some cool temps for the weekend with just 16 degrees on Sunday expected here and showers. Unfortunately it just won't cut it for snow lovers, with no snow any where other than the usual places (Snowies) but the amount won't be much sadly.

Well kookaburras were really sounding off around sundown. last time I heard them so raucous was 3 days out from the drenching at Norah Head last week. I spose it's not surprising that critters that have been around longer than us humans are more attuned to weather vibes. Forecast is for even warmer day tomorrow. Certainly warmish start to June.

Rain has dropped out of Sunday's forecast so it appears they think that the low will form further south. Lower temps forecast though, so a chilly few days coming up late weekend. Still not cold enough for this winter but at least it's a start.

I want my winter and I want it now!! Maybe a few days from Sunday onwards that may align with June av max temps for this area of eastern lake macquarie. Have had a couple of days this month when peak daylight temp didnt reach bom av June max temp. But winters for me aren't just about temp. They are about wind. Not just any wind. S'westers and Southerlies that show whose boss. Nor Easters rule summer in these parts. And spring and autumn transitions with slack winds and hearing someone fart from a km away. But winter. Winter when the wind howls and prowls. When the wind screams at you and bites your face and you realise you mean nothing to the wind

You can have your Winter westerly winds WJ, I hate them with a passion, i can build up enough static electricty to start up my own light display!! LOL

Had a little bit of sun around lunch time, other than that its been quite overcast and very calm as WJ mentioned, temp probably peeked at about 20.
Shame about the cloud, i was really looking forward to watching the moonrise this evening!!

Winter has started in Sydney, sort of. I checked out a couple of stations in Sydney's West, Bankstown and Parramatta, for the month to date. Both have records back to the late 1960s and would be much less UHI-affected than "Sydney's" official temps at Observatory Hill:

Code:
                              Min Max Daily Mean
Parramatta:
   Observed Avg June 1-13 8.9 18.9 13.9
   First half June Avg 8.1 18.5 13.3
   Anomaly + 0.8 + 0.4 + 0.6

Bankstown
   Observed Avg June 1-13 8.7 19.3 14.0
   First half June Avg 7.3 18.4 12.9
   Anomaly + 1.4 + 0.9 + 1.1

I calculated the first half June Average as 25% May + 75% June. I assumed that today's Parramatta max was 20 (it was 19.6 at 3:00PM). It won't be too different to that.

So the freakish warm spell has ended. Temps in June have been average or a little above, with the mean tracking about a degree above the long term average. What's been missing are 'cold' days (Min below 5, Max below 16).

Looking at the forecast, the pattern looks set to continue, with averages by the end of next week just slightly lower (Parramatta would be 8.7 to 18.7).

Nicely said WJ, I completely agree not having that wind is disappointing. It's also even more disappointing because the Illawarra (the Hunter too) is usually one of the windiest coastal areas along the NSW coast and even we've have no wind.
At least it is meant to be cold and windy for Sunday smile

Got to 20C here today after a chilly low of 6C under calm conditions most the day. It makes me wonder what the temp would have hit under the predicted NW winds and sunny skies..

After peaking here at Swansea with a temp around mid 17 teenish mid afternoon and then fluctuating downwads till around 6pm the temp has crept back up to what it was about 2pm. Weird. Was it less cloudy over Obs Hill as I see nearly 21 reached there. Was bout average June max here today. But Sydney OH way over av max.

There were lengthy sunny breaks over a swathe of the Sydney metro area including Parramatta, Canterbury, Olympic Park, Obs Hill and the Airport, which all reached 20.

The West was cooler, I expect because of more persistent cloud, with Camden, Campbeltown, Penrith and Badger's Creek reaching only 15-16 and other places e.g. Bankstown and Richmond maxing out at 17-18.

On the North Shore it was a cloudy, chilly morning with the cloud breaking up in the early afternoon to lengthy sunny breaks.

It was sunny here for some of the morning, but about 85% of the day was sun free.

Drizzle sometimes heavier here at Swansea. Was quite balmy overnight. Virtually no wind (again).

The low inland NSW by the circular spin on the Satellite image, looks to be moving NE to me.it might move off shore near or north of the Hunter region,if this did happen the coast south of low would get a good drenching, but the low is suppost to form off the south coast, have to see what happens.

Cloud clearing from NW. Occasional puff of wind. Very boring. Temp will rise soon and prob make 18 or 19 later. High pressure blob next week again. Someone wake me when winter arrives.

It was nice and sunny here for about an hour after all that high cloud cleared away. Now, though the boring old southerly has come, bringing low/middle level cloud.
