Sky has that NW flow "scorcher' look again. Talk of ECL forming of SE coast. Any info from boffins on latest?

Here on the Tablelands at Orange, we are having a quite different experience to what must be happening on the coast.

After a good overnight/ morning rain of about 20mm, the sun came out for several hours only to be replaced by a large black looking "cold cell" that rolled and boiled in from the west at about 1:30pm.
A heavy shower of small hail (and some not so small!)then ensued.

The temperature and Orange Airport plunged from about 12deg to 6.4deg during this period.

Still a bit showery now and I can see some more big cells with fleecy anvil tops to my south and south west.

Hopefully this instability that is overhead here will be over the relatively warm waters off the coast soon to provide some "action" for those of you on the coast.

Sounds like nice collision of air masses out at Orange. There appears to be maybe a bit of buildup west of here but still around 18.5 with wind gettting a bit more west in it. Storm be good but not till I finished fishin

Has now been raining here pretty steady for the last hour or so...dark low clouds and I have just heard a clap of thunder as I write this.
A fair bit of lightning showing up on the tracker now in southern/ central NSW
The air here now feels very cold and damp....mmm love my winter!
Hope you get a big fish Wind Junkie.... and a bit of interesting weather soon too !

No fish for tea W.W. Wind certainly chilled right down here. Grey, river of cloud has reached coast from the WNW but doesn't look intense enough for thunderstorm. Love me winters too but didn't have one last year and if these dominating highs don't retreat northwards soon we might not have one this year either as far as cold rug up S'Wester fronts go .

Few spits of H2o now. Not much but may get heavier as air encounters the coast fringe

There's the odd clear air strikes coming out of those cell's off shore atm. Look's like the SST is playing it's part again. It's a shame it isn't closer to hear a few rumbles.
Still could be something later, hoping anyhow.

Crispish morning. Didn't go sub 10 overnight but wind chill from WNW making it feel chilly outdoors. You'd need a steamer in the surf this morning.

Very cold here this morning with the very strong wind and now the rain has started. Luckily it may become partly sunny/cloudy and warmer once the rain band clears smile

Cool and overcast here, but no rain, after a sunny start. We seem to have had a cool change move through, only a weak one, stopping the temp from going past 13. The change appears on the NZ Met site 6:00 chart: http://www.metservice.com/maps-radar/maps/tasman-sea-nz

That rain band moving up from the South seems to be falling apart as it enters the Sydney Basin.

Should make the forecast 17 if the sun comes out in the afternoon for any length of time. If the cloud clears it will probably go higher.

Heavy shower out of the WSW. Rain feels very cold. Temp around 14ish. First real wintry feel day since early May sub polar finger. Great stuff. Tomato Soup for lunch. Yummo

Yep thought you be happy with these conditions!!! laugh

Getting quite blustery as the day progresses, cloud also on the increase. Temp nearly made to 18, but that will start falling shortly.

Luv dem winters Eddyg. Temp has upped a degree and bout 15 with a few tepid sunny breaks. Be nice to not make forecast of 17 let alone not make June max average of around 17.5 or so. Hoping no more showers now so I can have a late arvo fish. Wind dropped off a lot to a puff from WNW. Great breeze for surfing but swell nothing to write home about.

Wind picked up a bit again
Clouds to west have that ' probably snow if right altitude' look. Wonder if high points in B Mountains got a few flakes out of this. Update. Light shower

Giving Flickr a whirl. My mob phone's camera is pretty poor but all I got. Took this pic of sunset looking west from Swansea Heads. It was beautiful and there was a wonderful high arched rainbow out to sea but my phone camera did it no justice. Sunset at Swansea Flickr

Flickr allows you to copy the code for the image. Copy the 'BBC' code and past it here. Probably the medium size is best.

Today was cool and cloudy but it made the forecast 17. The cloud hung around until sunset when the sun finally broke through.

P.S. Great sunset picture Wind Junkie.

Good photos Steve and WJ, the sunset looked quite similar here too, which is a sign of a clearing trend to sunny weather grin

It struggled to 18C today with gusty winds hitting up to 60km/h. We also got 1.4mm of rain, bringing our monthly total to only 28.8mm and it's likely that it will be yet another below avg rain month.

I think El Nino has already started, except it's only confirmed when the warmer water rises to the surface in the Eastern Pacific, which it hasn't done so yet.

Thanks Steve777 for info. Not sure if because I using android phone but I tried 3 different browsers with Flickr in mobile and desktop modes and with each the share feature gave me assorted options for sharing pic but html/ bbc code was not listed. I look into it further. Now back to weather. Got sub 10 just before sun up. Clear and crisp.

Swansea Channel Sunset . Indulge me posting pic as embed. I have found work around to no "grab html/ bbc code' in Flickr share menu. Just have to click on pic and choose 'open image' and proceed to use that new Url. Hope that may help others.
