Yes done JL before and I can confirm it is butt clenching stuff! You certainly learn good clutch, acceleration and brakes control.

The car being used is a very sturdy land rover that has been down the canning stock route and back! It is a friend in Launceston who owns and will be driving this time.

I'm sticking to the short range (2-3 day) forecasts at the mo, don't want to get my hopes up. Every time I look at the 7 day OCF output it just depresses me, seeing all those 20C temps.

I notice that Bx has enjoyed some lower level cold the past few days, I note Canberra reached a tropical 15C today by comparison, normally the two centres are like peas in a pod (and when they differ, it's usually Canberra that's colder).

It may feel like that Billy, but it is not uncommon to have dry spells like this in winter smile The next rain could happen as early as tomorrow morning according to weather forecasters on the news, although I VERY highly doubt this will happen. Friday night could see light showers. Then Monday and Tuesday could see light showers. I daresay though being on the lee side of the Divide, the showers (if they happen) are likely to be brief and light.

Today was mostly sunny with cloud in the afternoon due to the winds tending more Southwesterly and almost southerly right in the Northern suburbs. The top hit 19 after a very windy low of 13C.

I'm also hoping to see our first frost of the year soon, as frost happens here about as much as snow happens at Jindabyne.

Access, GFS and EC all seem to be looking good for a cold blast next Tuesday. Early days yet but good to see agreement. Here's hoping.

Big fog here this morning. Given the temp was about 1.9 at 10pm last night (and clear sky) thought we were in for a good frost. However fog hit and stabilised the night temp.

Overcast at moment. Once sun busts thru it will get warm again. 20 predicted for Newcastle and I believe it will get 21 at Nobbys once cloud gets busted. Disheartening to see synoptic and all those fronts being deflected by friggin huge high. Feel like I might need a straight jacket

Here's something you won't see very often, currently Bathurst is about 3 degrees (under fog) Orange a tropical 10.3 degrees (blue sky)

Quite a cool grey overcast drizzly day here today, I doubt we will get to our top temp of 19.
Recorded 2.6mm in the 24hrs to 9am, most of that fell around sunrise this morning, and i would say we have a had a few more mls since.

And there I was eddyg predicting 21 for Nobbys. Was actually cooler there and here today than yesterday. Got about 18 I guess. Wind shifted SW around midday and even though morning grey cover broke up the Sw kept temp down. Go the Blues!!

Once we lost the fog it turned into a stunner here. T Shirt weather of 13 degrees, no breeze. Even my brother visiting from coast was astonished how deliciously warm it felt in the sun despite the thermometer reading. Finally he realises that the temperature is not necessarily a good indicator of what the weather feels like. smile

I can tell the coasties that a day down there of 16 but cloudy and breezy (esp sea breeze) is much colder than a day of 12, no breeze and 100% sunshine out here. Our winter days are much more like that than people believe. Interspersed of course with the odd cold spell, oh and once the frost and fog have cleared. smile

Another beautiful day here today, although we did have a cool start and it took a while to warm up. Although the wind was light today, it was quite chilly this afternoon.

Already feeling crisp here, even though the sun went down only 20 minutes ago, so I'm looking forward to a chilly night smile

Onya Blues!!! Come on cold fronts, come from behind this winter and give the high pressure a lickin.

Norah head station records 13.1 at 7 am and Nobby's 8.7. Norah reading is crap. Was colder last night than night before and Nobbys shows that but Norah shows much warmer than night before with a 5.30 am temp on 18 th nearly 4 degrees colder than 5.30 am reading this morning. Fix it Bom and basically forget using stats. How many other sites whose stats enter historical record are garbage

Duane - wow fair effort there!! At least ours cleared by lunchtime.

Homer - go indeed they did, weird game and to be honest I thought Qld looked like they were more effective in attack all night, happy though and boy o boy so wer the blues players (and Laurie) smile

Another big fog here, it was set in by about 9.30 last night, temp currently about zero or a tad under. We won't warm up for some time yet.

Min should come in around -1 or -2

Orange in clear skies already about 6 degrees.

I take it that you're suggesting the instrument is faulty, but I've seen plenty of examples in coastal NSW of highly exposed coastal sites producing minimum temperatures much warmer than even very nearby sites (for example, there are plenty of cases when Moruya Heads has been 5 degrees or more warmer than Moruya Airport, which is only a couple of kilometres away). There also seem to be some interesting things happening with regional inversions today - at the moment most of the Hunter sites (including near-coastal ones like Nobbys and Williamtown) are significantly cooler than the Central Coast ones (Gosford and Lake Macquarie as well as Norah Head), while in the Sydney basin it's a mixed bag with 18ish at Sydney Airport, Homebush and Richmond but near 15 at a lot of other sites.

(If Norah Head was faulty, you'd expect it to be reading too high for maxima as well as minima, and I don't see any clear evidence of that yet).

Fog finally lifting now, sun still not breaking through but definitely a clearance underway now. Temp will go up fairly quickly once sun gets through.
