Benign, insipid wind from S to SE. Feels so much warmer than the aws stats for Nobbys and Norah suggest which are both now sub 16.

The sub tropical jet dominating again with high pressure belt too far south like most of June. 22 forecast for coastal Newie friday. Ridiculous

That reminds me of the amazing Australia Day sea fog which I think happened in 2010 or 2011.

Although there would be other coastal districts that don't get much fog, I reckon we would get the least fog per year out of ANY coastal districts in NSW apart from maybe Coffs Harbour and far north NSW because of the topography of our areas.

However everywhere else has areas where the fog can build up between the coast and mountains and get blown towards the coast in a light westerly, which also happens in Sydney. Newcastle also gets its fair share of fog from the Hunter Valley.

The only area we usually get fog is around Kembla Grange underneath Farmborough Heights and it's actually more common than you'd think, but I wouldn't say it's "true" fog as it is only usually 10-20m thick.

Was at Stroud this afternoon playing 9 holes and there was some nice convection about and at times some thunder, whilst having lunch there was a good downpour with a closhish clap of thunder, I estimate about 3 -5mm in about as many minutes. It was quite warm prior to the storm and after the downpour it became quite fresh.
Got to say I enjoyed that little bit of thundery activity even if the golf was crap!!

Lucky you Eddy, there was certainly some convection about but nothing came out of it here. There was obviously a missing ingredient down this way compared to Newcastle northwards.

Fogs are fairly common along the river valleys in Sydney but less so on the ridges. In Sydney, the fog is almost always gone by 9:00am. Fog nearly always means a bright, sunny day.

I only get fog once or twice a year here on the lower North Shore Ridge but when I used to get the train into the City to work, I would often descend from bright sunshine into fog on clear, damp mornings.

My workplace had a view of the Harbour Bridge. A couple of times, early on a cool, sunny morning, a great white cloud would roll under the Bridge, driven by light Westerlies (katabatic winds). The Harbour would be shrouded in fog while the Arch and Sydney Cove were in bright sunshine.

All this talk of fog has me looking over my shoulder for werewolves.

A sun shower just now. Temp between 11 and 12. This shower stuff will boost humidity for later. Past few days late arvo there has been some buildup stuff to west but not enough moisture to drive anything. The dew was certainly heavy last night under mostly clear sky.

Another foggy cold morning out here. About -3, big fog and where there's no fog there's good frost. smile

Starting to break up now, sun trying to get through. Should be a nice day. smile

No werewolves here so far. smile

Some real vertical cloud forming westward. Interesting

A thick blanket of StratoCu quickly burnt off this morning and made way for more vertical cumulus development with the heat of the sun and moisture around.

Gee the NE'er feels bitingly cold here this afternoon. Feels very unusual for winter to have a cold, moist maritime breeze on a clear-ish day. Perhaps if wasn't 16C! we might have actually had a chance of a thundery shower or storm this arvo smile

Another pleasant day 18.4 degrees with light winds, some convection tried hard to get going this arvo but nothing eventuated. High cloud is starting to stream in from the west.

Here is a pic of the storm sitting offhore late this morning, probably of the coast of Forster, looking NE.

And some of the convection that tried hard!!

Great photos Eddy, I agree it did feel very September-ish, especially when the NE'er came through.

I think Friday could actually see a rough chance of some thunderstorms, with temps quite warm for this time of year and also very strong upper and middle-level winds from the NW will keep the storms moving! (that's if they develop)

Forecast for Newie is for a 3 day streak of reaching 20 or above today, Friday and Saturday.

Look in the rear vision mirror and you can see Winter in it. Certainly a short one on the coast here.

A pretty boring winter weather wise to be followed by the tedium of early spring. Light winds and stillness.

It got down to 4.2 degrees this morning, quite cold considering the amount of cloud we had overnight into the morning.

Yep WJ shaping up to be a pleasant few days ahead, and the possibility of maybe a storm on Friday and Saturday!!

Now thats my type of winter, when storms are involved!! laugh
