Still howling through here, gusting up to 60kph easily according to the weather station 5 meters from me.

Few lighter showers passing through, probably seen the worst of the rain until tomorrow. Should get increasingly wet tomorrow, be a shocker on thursday and for the north ease Fridqay afternoon. With the wind backing to the south and -6 850TMPS south and south-east could see some nice snowfalls with reasonable precip forecast late friday in the latest GFS, but easing overnight Friday into saturday.

Power flickering, might lose it if the winds get much stronger...

Hit 96.6Kph earlier, strongest gust since I put the weather station in. Not a patch on a few sites around the state.

...One of those is Maatsuyker Island which had a wind gust of 172km/hr at 644pm this evening. The winds are increasing everywhere this evening. That's up there with the highest wind speeds ever recorded in Tasmania which I think is 200km/hr on top of Mt.Wellington in 1998 March.

Very low pressure. I wonder what Tasmania's lowest ever reading is. I do recall a 966 or 964 reading in Hobart in September 1987...that caused the Derwent river to spill its banks in combination with high tide. Walking home from school along the waterfront, it felt like something dramatic was happening to the world ( I was quite young! ). That's the lowest barometric reading I remember observing in Hobart; it's possibly also the lowest on record. Maatsuyker may have even been in the 950s.

The bom wind charts show many windshifts through the time steps in the next little while - has the worst of it gone?

I love the inclement & cold as much as the next but I must admit I do fear raging winds - hope no more will have their homes damaged.

Tassie has been copping a good old fashioned flogging this week!!

Very cold air tomorrow. I reckon snow to below 300, possibly approaching sea level in heavy showers down south.

...wonder if there's any chance of serious icing of the tarns up there?..would have thought the smaller ones could do.

The Tarn shelf (Mt Field National Park) has several quite large tarns (small glacial Lakes) that ice over most winters. I expect they would benefit greatly from this change. Been a bit warm up till now.

People can often ski over the top of a number of decent sized tarns up there. smile

Front crossing now, passing through north west. Conditions near stanley are terrible. Wind is howling, bass strait heaving and the rain is coming in hard at times.

The winds been horrid here, sustained at 70 plus km and gusts over 100km
Had to pick the kids up from school.

We're in Cressy , so not up on the plateau but have a nice view if the teirs and if conditions are right ... Maybe a little snow on Friday smile not holding my breath tho

Just hoping this wind is done now that's it's died down a little , we've got they so far with only the trampoline matt and gate latch damaged
