Excellent write up Seabreeze. The two Moruya sites (Moruya Heads and Moruya Airport) offer an even more dramatic comparison, as do the two Coonabarabran sites which Blair often mentions here.

My personal view is that AWS' should be situated in locations that offer the best representation of an area as a whole. Frost hollows and urban heat islands are interesting for folk like us, but they don't really represent what the average punter experiences. I recognise that finding these optimal sites is pretty difficult in practice.

I say democratise aws stuff by kitting homes out with subsidised weather stations with real time feeds . Kind of like solar subsidies etc.

The "Kempsey" site currently at Wide Street has moved around a lot over the years, with some of the locations being several kilometres out of town, so it's not a lot of use for looking at long-term trends.

Thanks Wind Junkie and Dave. WJ, I understood your phrase after I looked it up hahaha smile Yeah all the social media these days is taking the focus off forums.

The cold air arrived here at around 9:30 and the wind came up and the temp dropped. Certainly was cool today, but it did feel quite nice in a way smile

And it's also amazing just how low the DP's are. Certainly a very dry cold front for this side of the ranges. Probably the lowest DP's yet this year in the Illawarra and other places too.

Some wild looking weather on the doppler and radar around the Oberon Plateau at the moment.

Cracking day, even if i tortured myself for 18 holes. The high today was 23.2c, temp still about 18c but you can really feel the wind chill.
Wind was strong enough to knock a tree and power lines down earlier this arvo when the change came through.

Wow thats a fairly warm top, the change must've come pretty late for you. Only got to 15.5 here and cold and VERY windy here atm.

Look at those temps in the Northern Rivers; Most areas hit 27C with Casino hitting 29C! Would have smashed the July record, but is way short of the August record of 36C

Yeah was warm indeed, just up the road at Taree reached 24.8c, if you look at there obs the wind was SW for a short while in the morning and that was pretty much the same here, actually that SW breeze here was a short term gale, then became a gentle NW breeze till the change came through roughly about 2.30.

Talk about a dry change. Wind stayed mostly NW. Cold wind. But certainly quite a dull front. Yawwwn

Is that a change moving through Western Sydney? Temp dropped by 3 degrees in 20 minutes in Penrith with winds picking up to 20 knots gusting to 36. Drops of nearly 4 degrees at Camden to 6.9. Richmond still 'warm' at 11.4.

P.S. wind now picking up here.

I think it might be something to do with the rain band that came through not long ago, but it is possible that a secondary, embedded front has come as it is a pretty complex system.

Cold and clear. Front yesterday was pathetic. A few clouds and a few moderate puffs. Zilch excitement. Wind stubbornly refuses to turn SW. Forecast is for 15. Ho ho ho

Unless these showers currently offshore come onshore or the wind gets up, I can easily see the temp going past 15c.
Currently it is already 11c, clear skies and a very light breeze from the SW.

I agree Wind Junkie- this weather is so annoying for this side of the ranges. Zero enjoyment.

I'd trade this weather for an ECL any day. We're still yet to have decent ECL this year.

Personally I don't think I will get over 15C today, it's just too cold for this time of the morning with to see a much warmer top. Only 10C with a fresh westerly blowing.

Over 12 now. Breeze a little more from west. Air so dry. Pterygium in my left eye always flares up when its so dry.Yes reillyp. I would trade just one decent ECL for a thousand @@@ull$$it fronts. Back to boring light winds with coldish nights and still warm days. Simply no challenge

Couldn't agree more WJ this is so boring, This winters has been a total fizzer for the coast, I know you love the cold tho WJ but now im just waiting for mid this month to see spring conditions slowly creeping back, I need a good storm! you could say im withdrawing like a Storm Junkie Hahah poke

Currently 13.6 at 12:10 doubt it will get over 15 today quiet breezy too. Maybe a shower later although chances look slim?

Edit: sorry Reilly just scrolled up and saw you basically covered what I had to say

It's all good Andrew smile I agree we need a good storm season, haven't had a decent one for a few years now.

Just 14-15C here in the Illawarra from cold, brisk southerlies. Probs won't get any warmer today.

Wind has finally shifted SW. Hallelujah!!! Might not bust thru forecast max after all.

Haven't been to Copacabana in ages. Storms would look a treat from some of cliff vantage points Andrew. Love the ochre tinged cliffs. A beautiful area.
