Wow, it only dropped to -1.9C overnight, much hotter than predicted. Now at 9.15am it is a pleasant 4.9C. It looks like we could be in for a top of 15C. A scorcher.

On the Fox weather channel this morning, the presenter said, Canberra had a very chilly start. -1.9C is very chilly? If she only knew what very chilly actually is. Already today I've seen workmen outside in T-shirts and sleeveless Hi-vis vests ... I guess, being chilly is relative.

Warren.

In the first half of August, the Sydney area experienced close to average temps, with cold nights in the West. Rainfall was mostly coastal. For example:

Bankstown: 4.5 - 18.6 (anomaly -1.3 to -0.2, interpolating July and Aug averages), 7mm (15% of Aug average)

Airport: 8.2 - 17.4 (+0.3 to -0.6), 50mm (67%).

Models seem to be picking up more rain/showers from monday onwards from a trough feature or ECL feature.

ACCESS shows an ECL forming up near QLD.

Thanx Eddy for sand info. Never climbed Yaacaba head. Got down end of beach at Hawks nest once but was too shagged out from heat to go any further. Put on me bucket list.

Back to non event weather. Bit of high cloud about and SWester.

Sydney's forecast for the following week looks just like February if you add about 7 or 8 to the maxima (a bit more for the West) and about 8 or 9 to the minima. Then you've got it - 7 days of cloudy/partly cloudy, mild to warm emps and a shower icon against every day.

Lovely and cool up here and mostly sunny in the upper mountains today.

BTW, for those interested, the video I posted earlier of Bridal Veil Falls in the other thread was a trickle compared to this in January 2010. This was an incredible storm, about 104mm in 85 minutes.

Yeah WJ, a few showers about today for sure, breeze is more SE now.
10.4mm I recorded in the 24 hrs to 9 am this morning.
I'm certainly liking the looks of each run of GFS, looks like a wet finish to August!!!

Heavy drizzle here atm, which is causing quite low visibility. Tiny little drops. Unlike you Eddy, I'm hating the looks of GFS. It looks like a February or April outlook, but colder. A wet end to August is quite depressing actually. We've already had enough rain here.

IMO theres nothing worse than days of rain and S/SE'ers in winter, unless it's from an ECL of course. I'm hoping for a nice sunny September smile

Good this morning the flow is coming in from a more SE to E direction, any showers on the coast should move a little further inland hopefully.

Some nice chunky towers about, only a little bit of drizzle about here, but no doubt they are heavier under the towers!!
Sun is quite warm when it's out, you can really start to feel it's bite, Spring not far away now!!

Edit - just saw some pics of waterspouts on Facebook. On the Central Coast!!

Check this out Eddy taken at Blacksmith beach at 1pm.

30 mins later there was a very heavy downpour at nearby Belmont. I had a god awful time at a servo on the non covered bowser side.

Nice pic WJ, all that is missing from it is a waterspout.
RG I have no doubt that some of these small cells contain small hail
Like my next pic I posting all that is missing is a lightning strike!! https://flic.kr/p/oxULob

Once again I'm sorry about a link, enjoy!!
