Geez someone's fired up! smile Just joking smile

Nah I agree with some parts of what you said, but FB unfortunately is the "thing" these days. I don't believe it was made for a vast intel gathering site to control everyone. IMO if it was, it would have happened by now as FB has been around for over 10 years now.

As you know I am a young person and I enjoy using Facebook to talk to my mates and seeing the Illawarra Stormchaser's weather reports. But I guess I grew up in the technology era. Yeah it is a shame that facebook is so popular now because it is reducing forum users and almost making the forum dead in some ways.

Got back home late last night and was told that I did miss a thunderstorm that hit this area, but it wasn't overly good- just heavy rain and a few bouts of thunder. It's good to be back and nice to be able to comfortably walk outside at this time of morning in shorts and T-shirt, which couldn't be said about the Berrima-Joadja area.

Reckon I should put a sock in it SM? lol. Mayb I should have started dedicated thread on issue and not in day to day thread. Mayb there has been discussion on forum sometime before bout this. Anyway I wont labour the point.

Suprised temp stayed above 16 all nite. The change was quite cool as I stood in the dark on the beach whilst watching storm out to sea.

Nah I don't think you should put a sock in it. I'm sure many others will agree with your point of view and good on ya for speaking your opinion, but me being a young person means that I have different views about FB than you do, which is fine. Maybe you should start a discussion about this in "The Lounge", I'm sure it would spark alot of interest. smile

Geez WJ, tell us what you really think, maybe a trip to the bottleshop for you!! lol

Nah can see where your coming from though, as SM pointed the obvious reason out.
I still prefer the forums as pics/vids on FB get lost amongst the various ads and what not.

7.3mm in the 24hrs to 9am this morning, the southerly hit around midnight with some rather strong squally gust at times.

Quite cool this morning, clouds are trying to break up, wind is light to moderate from the south.

I am one of the admins of Illawarra Stormchasers, and I enjoy contributing from time to time, but apart from that I don't enjoy face book either. It has turned the weather community into a circus.

Having said that the NSW section of this forum has been going down hill for many years, and the decline started well before facebook was popular. Its a shame, i'm sure a few on here remember the good old days between 2001-2004.

We finally got some interesting weather, and we had a few photos posted on the last page.

I find this thread one of the busiest, or on PAR with the SE QLD NE NSW thread

You should see the NQ threads from april till september.

Yeah pingtang, I also enjoy your contributions and your occasional pics that you, Stephen and Simon post.

Yeah Trav, but it was only interesting for the coasties and sadly I wasn't on the coast at the time, I was in the Highlands.

This would be one of the most popular thread's for sure. Along with the SE Q and NE N thread, the SA thread is also pretty busy. On the other end of the scale is the depressing S WA thread.

I recall some disagreements about the forum rules/decisions years ago (5+ years ago), causing a fair chunk of members from WA (mostly SW WA), VIC and TAS to create their own individual state based forum elsewhere on the net (for WA I think it was around 2007, for VIC around 2009, and for TAS about 2006ish). Though to an extent the VIC section seems to have gradually recovered from that exodus.

Yes definitely the Tas forums contributors mostly moved to "Stormplanet", it still exists

http://tassieweather.org/forum/index.php?sid=457912ed73a7b7b0412a13904b5cbdcb

But not many contributions these days sadly. I'd like to try and get them back to WZ.

I miss most of the earlier contributors, a lot of knowledgeable and enthusiastic people. We don't have near as many posters now.

Now ya talkin. At least I havent been called a pompous git yet. Early days lol.

Spring spring spring. Few bikinis getting about now. woo. I watched these young guys late yesterday arvo surfing a bit of mush. The wind swang offshore and incoming tide picked up size and voila! a beauty left hander. They were woopin. Great stuff and an example of mother nature can turn on a dime.

Yew the bikinis!! smile

Yeah the surf is fairly good atm in protected areas, however it's only going to go downhill from there. This Tuesday is the first time I have ever seen "Flat" in the Swellnet surf forecast. I've seen 0.5ft in the forecast a few times but never "flat". Sounds pretty grim.

Quite an average day out there, mostly cloudy and quite cool SE'ly winds. Will be camping on Saturday and Sunday nights in the Royal NP, so hopefully the weather improves. Happily though, it looks pretty good for camping.

Sunny day in Sydney today, although the breeze was cool. Just went outside - there's low cloud and it's trying to rain. Days like today feel cooler than the calm, sunny days of mid Winter (or to me anyway). As usual Observatory Hill was anomalously warm on a sunny day with Southerlies.

I've never joined facebook. The idea of putting my life on the internet like 'The Truman Show' never appealed. As for tracking, Google does that too, and Google is pretty much unavoidable.

Numbers on the forum do seem to have been dropping. I think we lost a few participants in the middle of last year when discussion of 'That Wherof We Must Not Speak' was banned.

Yeah I agree with that Steve, a calm, sunny winter's day does indeed feel warmer and much more pleasant. Surprised that it was sunny in Sydney and cloudy here- orographic lift must have been doing its job.

I wonder how many less sunshine hours per year Wollongong would get compared to Sydney because of the orographic lift? I reckon there'd be a fair difference between the two. I can remember many times in the past where I've been in Sydney under sunny conditions, then come to Wollongong and covered by a blanket of stratus or maritime cumulus cloud.

Well how bout a chook raffle or topless posting or having a members draw and calling out 'Mr Smith your number has come up'. But Mr Smith is never there. He he he. Works for pubs and clubs.

A few showers o'nite and cloudy now.

Bugger SM, I like it!! smile Looks a lot like Elle to me!!

Can't see that hat doing much in the battle against UV exposure to the body. smile

Down to about 0.9 at the airport this morning, lower parts of town would have likely been cooler. Some areas hereabouts may have had a small minus in typical cool drain places.

Stunning sunny sky now, feels great in the sun, currently around 11 or so out there. Warming nicely.

Heading for a little walk this arvo after work, driving to Bleakheath and walking to Hanging Rock - google it (include Blue Mountains) and you will recognise it I'm sure.

About a 7 or 8 km round trip plus some hopping about the clifflines etc I reckon.

Lovely day for it indeed. smile
