Good work Trav. I'd be happy with that distant lightning shot poke can't wait to get my first capture.

Here's a pyrocumulus from the fires we had. You can see an aircraft down and to the left of center as a tiny white speck. -

And the next day -

Wasn't sure if it was a pyrocumulonimbus or not. There is some anvilling.

Things to improve -

first one is over-saturated a bit. Otherwise I like it.
second one is a bit blurry and not composed that well.

Hey Trav. Just started learning lightroom. Got it off a 'mate' but will probably end up buying. Worth checking out I've only scratched the surface of what it can do.

Needing a tripod soon. Reckon this one looks like it'll do the trick (thanks Steve-o) -
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Weifeng-W...D&isdl=y&af=ppc[/quote]

Anyone have any accessories like hard cases or battery grips for their canon? Hard case looking pretty good, need to make things more portable without having to worry about breaking the thing.

Got these shutter releases - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/181419343124?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

And - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/271616220607?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

About what you'd expect for the price but they both work. The wireless one doesn't have the best range but hard to complain over a $4.50 outlay.

Have taken so many bad pictures poke

Took a bunch of this rainbow and was thinking I had nailed a great full double rainbow (apart from powerlines) but only this one turned out -

Trev & Chris, both taking beaut pics - very impressive.

To reduce movement at the time of taking a pic. I use the cameras delayed timer, either 2 or 10 seconds.

First partial press to focus, finish pressing take button and then concentrate on not moving when the shutter operates.

Seems to help.

Cheers mate.

Camera movement is annoying - if I could have a super power, I'd consider being able to hold things completely still for extended periods of time (tripod man with gimbal action)

Dropped in on a camera club the other day and got some good stuff e-mailed to me, might be helpful to other beginners -

Thanks mate smile

I was really hoping a big massive crawler would happen right as that sunset flared up.

That would have been one for the pool room.

You'll get 'em, putting in like that yields a result.

Doing very well as it is, I find I'm driving lately looking at the sky more for that 'special' pic...one day.

Nice work Trav! Love the Portrait one with all the layers, and the foreground trees silhouetted.

Any particular settings you use or just experiment?

Last night was hard because it was all embedded and over exposing the clouds

So I put the F setting to 4 and Iso all the way down too 100 and it seemed to help. Anything above 400 was too bright.

The night where I got those CGs 2 nights ago I was at Iso 1000 and F5.

This is embarrassing because I stuffed up a ripper. It was raining amd had the tripod in the back seat. It bumped the 15 sec exposure before the bolt landed. Im still super angry

If your over exposing travel go right down with your f stops. Don't be scared to go down to 16 or even lower. It will give you much longer exposures .

Im not sure brett if it was because my F settings were too high, or if there was just so much intercloud lightning that it was just letting too much light in. Need more trial and error, looks like I should get another chance tonight to have a play

Fair enough. I might even shoot up the table lands this arvo if something happens. I haven't got a decent lightning pic yet and it is definitely something Ihave to work on. I ddon't live in a great area for it though.

Me neither, just gotta pick the day where its most likely that you are going to see thunderstorms go into the night.

Im running on about 3-4 good chases with 3-4 busts. My biggest bust I did 600km and only saw a shower
