Here is the view to my N from about 15 mins ago. I also heard few distant rumbles earlier on.

Yay!!! I'm happy as can be haha!! grin

I've been out in the Ferntree Gully/Boronia/Wantirna area for the past 2.5 hours or so, the sight of altocumulus castellanus and bubbling cumulus congestus to my north and northwest sure was a promising sign. smile

Come 2pmish, the first cumulonimbus start poking up to the north, and for a while it looked like the action would miss me but I was still happy to see storm clouds... but that was just the beginning.

At 2:30pmish, a dark, very angry high-based cell erupted over the Yarra Valley, unleashing loud thunder! A couple more thunderstorm cells developed to its southwest, with one passing right overhead, bringing more thunder and quite large raindrops. smile

Very happy outcome... but please sir, I want some more! wink

I tried to go after the same cell ASF..... the raindrops were like paintballs! There was some nice CGs out in to the east, in the valley. I got to chirnside before I called off the chase.... I was never going to catch it.

Had some nice undulating clouds behind the cell as well. Was a pretty weak little cell, but probably had a decent updraft going by the rain drop sizes. The amount of rain was just enough to make everything humid

CFA is huuugely busy responding to all the lightning generated fires. Constant radio traffic and lots of messages getting missed.

Watch it all explode in eastern Vic / Gippsland once again. Classic.

That stuff around Ballarat spitting out bolts and heading my way.

I've been watching the development most of the day, and was very excited to see lots of ACCAS and anvils around to the NW late this morning.

Heard a couple of rumbles of thunder and had 3 spots of rain around 2:15, and sitting in traffic not more than 5 minutes ago, I caught sight of 2 CG's towards the south. Such a shame there is little rain frown ...but still excited smile

Storm has just passed. Innumerable CGs. House shook with some of the thunder. 7.5mm in steady moderate rain. Still rolling away to the east.

I think that the 100mm of a week ago and the rain with storm will avoid any problems re fires. Not so, I fear, in the NE with the many starts this arvo and tomorrow's forecast.

G'day Bob, rolling thunder for over 1 1/2 hrs and black to the east over your way, the 7.5mm would be nice, keep things damp for a while.

Didn't get a drop of rain.

Hope it goes OK for the N/E.

Still thundering as I type and the suns out.

Heard a couple of distant rumbles to our W while jogging before, was 0.5mm in the gauge from a mid arvo shower, clear to our NW (storm alley) now, so although the baro is staying low at 1006 hPa, it will be hours later if we are to get a storm here.

[edit] - a couple of recent sparks N of Melb and also W of Mansfield gives me a bit more hope that a round 2 might develop tonight.

We had a max today of 31deg and a low of 13.5deg.

Had a line of storms pass through this arvo with alot of
lightning and thunder, but only a few large drops of rain
that just wet the ground.

Just left work and saw some flashes to the south, even a CG. Big line of storms south of Phillip Island. More echos popping up over the bay but sadly moving too far south. Once again, the same old story ... all to the north, east and south.

Had a top of 29.1C yesterday (last night's low was 12.8C btw). smile

As per what Dawoodman said, those thunderstorms I mentioned (and he attempted to chase) certainly gave off a spectacular, turbulent, 'undulating' pattern on their backsides! According to what my family told me via Facebook and after I arrived home, that string of cells passed directly over my area (so the good old 'storm magnet' was once again working), and they could certainly hear the thunder booming from the Yarra Valley cell! smile

More showers and thunderstorms popped up overhead or just nearby from around 4pm up until dinnertime; three or four times we had brief bursts of heavy rain, and for a while there was distant thunder that sounded more like earthquakes! Winds were cooling but gentle, with gusts clocked at only 15km/h. smile

I saw a few distant lightning flashes from an intense-looking cell that passed over Buxton and Marysville a few hours ago.

Currently a very comfortable 16C outside, but hardly a breath of wind and very humid. And it's overcast with an annoying layer of stratus... which will ruin any chance of me filming lightning if we get a storm overnight! But probably just as well, I need sleep since I'm flat out with so many different things to do atm; hope I get a storm tomorrow morning, Besides, what I want more than lightning is heavy rainfall. I want the grass to stay green and moist, how I wish our summers didn't feature bushfires!! frown

Hate trough line in my East as thunderstorms development over us and active lighting about 10KM East, Nothing in West is very common in my location.

Big cells to the north, and to the south. Full overcast with low troll maritime rubbish here. There is taking the piss, then there is this. It's like asking what is the meaning of life.

looking at the BOM obs, the Portland obs caught my eye, 9.2C at Portland Airport at 1:30am, 16.1C at the harbour. That's a big difference for such a short distance.

Meanwhile, 39.9C in Mildura (might aswell be bloody 40 then right lol). They are enjoying a proper December.

Been watching the train of storms to my east, beautiful sight, bit too far away though. If it was right next to me I'd be quite happy.

Got some shots from it though, will check them out in the morning.
