I think this system is worthy of its own thread:

And I think 'sultry' should be used in BOM forecasts again, it's such a nice adjective smile.

And I is an even younger fart!!

Starting to cloud over here with cirrus crap. We're getting a very strong seabreeze here this afternoon. Unbelievably strong in fact. It's so windy that the sand is getting blown up and whips the hell out of your feet! The wind would have to be gusting up to 30 knots. It's probably the strongest seabreeze I've experienced in a while.

Hopefully tomorrow is good for storms and I hope the water conditions are okay because I REALLY want to take the tinny out. Today would have been suicidal in that thing.

Must be real nice pitching tents and setting up camp on the coast now.
The kids will be swimming to cool off. You would be having a dip to escape the baking summer heat. Then time to fire up the barby and have a couple of cool ones as you watch the sun slowly sink in the west...
...and in NSW there is a howling southerly with an overcast scudfest and apparent temps struggling to get into the high teens.

Fail.

So. Now I know what a scumtherly is, very apt name for sure. 2 in 4 days at salt ash, lucky I brought a jumper. Hopefully gone in the morning so we can hit the water.

Hahaha welcome to the NSW coast, Ronfishes... smile

Unfortunately, scumtherlies aren't very often gone by the morning. Usually after it comes you have to endure another day of cloudiness. Although, when there are E/NE winds, the low cloud will usually clear. Sometimes this happens in the morning after (for example, Xmas Day), but usually it will clear in the afternoon.

The thing that is annoying about this summer is that we're still getting the usual amount of southerly changes, but this year is a weak El Nino. This means that almost every single one we get does not contain any measurable rainfall.

Cloud still hanging around this morning. Could clear this arvo if were very lucky. I doubt it though. At least the water is glassy I spose.

Yeah SM, we canceled our fishing trip as it is also blowing down here, plenty of time to wait for a better day.

I remember as a kid sometimes days of fog in an easterly as we used to have a farm on Brown mountain above the Bega valley

Picked up 35mm from the overnight Christmas rain...very welcome.

Bureau still suggesting rain here tomorrow with possible moderate falls. I cant see this in GFS or Access models.

Certainly the potential is there with moisture and nearby trigger, but its seems to be all north of here.

Can anyone see what they are looking at to give a 90% figure...?

Where do you go fishing? Around Lemon Tree Passage and down Tilligerry Creek?

GR- To me it just looks like a few possible showers and cloudy conditions; similar to today with maybe a better chance of rain.

It's a really crap day. Very boring. No rain, no wind and no weather. It's one of those days that make you not want to do anything.

Yep, fishing off for another day, I think we will launch from lemon tree SM, but other than that I have no idea. We have four kids under 8 so a reasonable day is needed, otherwise we would probably be around one of the islands I'm guessing.

Still light rain but lightening up a little.

Good stuff, I visited Lemon Tree Passage yesterday for the first time. It is a very quite little fishing town. Certainly different to this area. It should be nice weather tomorrow for fishing. You might even wander past where I'm staying if you fish near Peppers Anchorage.

Btw, my pop reckons that Lemon Tree Passage is a good area to throw out crab pots to catch the mud crabs that are around.

The scumtherlies aren't about today which is good. In fact it wouldn't be a bad idea for you to go fishing today RF. It might be cold and rainy, but chances are that it will be very calm all day. Whereas tomorrow is likely to be choppy from the E/NEly seabreeze.

Hey guys! Looks like I'll be back in Northeast Victoria/Southeast NSW/ACT sometime around New Year for my annual summer holiday (Canberra and Sydney are in doubt atm, but Corryong and Merimbula are happening). smile

Not looking forward to the heatwave that's set to build into Southeastern Australia from the Outback, anybody know if there's much chance of severe thunderstorms and heavy rain occurring within the first 7-10 days or so of January? smile

Thanks for the tips SM. Yeah I would have gone today but alas I'm not the captain!
Still some light spits around here.

Good stuff ASF!! It will be good to hear reports from Corryong and and the 'Bula! smile

About the heat, if you're in Merimbula, you should escape the heat and get low-mid 20s and gale force NNE'ly winds. If your in Corryong though, watch out!! It shouldn't be as hot as Melbourne, but still very hot!

With storms occurring, I don't know but I'd say probably not; usually the first half of January is fairly dry and hot with little moisture. Of course every year if different though, so anything can happen!!!

Still light spitty rain at my aunty's house here at Thornton too.

Haha thanks Sea-Mist, looking forward to heading north from Melbourne to Northeast Victoria and across the Murray River into NSW/ACT! I'll have to wait until January 9th before I can retreat to Merimbula, so over a week of enduring the heat in Corryong. poke

Hoping for some storms to erupt along and near the Great Dividing Range and Snowy Mountains to spice things up in coming weeks! smile

A tad early, in fact WAY too early lol, but looks like there's at least a temporary reprieve from the anticipated heatwave in store for the latter part of next weekend and early the following week. ACCESS and the synoptics have a low pressure trough swinging across Victoria and NSW/ACT during that period, fed by Pacific moisture from Queensland. BSCH is onto this potential system as well in terms of instability, which could amount to anything ranging from virtually nothing or scrappy high-based showers and storms to a full-blown severe thunderstorm outbreak and/or rain event. Just thought I'd put you all on notice, as it's worth keeping an eye on in coming days! smile

As expected nothing here today. Pretty poor for a 90% rain forecast. Should have been 90% in the north and 40% in the south of the Hunter.

Anyway, as for the longer term, I notice the black ants taking eggs up over 6 foot. Usually means there is something on a 10 day to 2 week horizon. See if they pay up.
